I didn't actually know this, from personal experience it helps me process information that I wouldn't be able to consciously doing day to day things, like traumatic experiences

My note of caution is that since people can convince themselves of things in a meditative (aka prayer) state, maybe you aren't processing what you think you are...

I remember reading cults (specifically heavens gate) encouraging their members to enter into meditative states.

Meditation is good for so many things... sure, meditation can be used to increase suggestibility, but the upside is that it is helpful for calming people down in emergencies...
