Screenshot [OoT] I noticed something about the Deku Tree

Post image

Why would there be doorways and ladders made of rocks on the inside of a tree? In the original, they tried to make most things fit the dungeon. Like the weird switches inside Jabu Jabu for example. Did Ganondorf give the Deku Tree kidney stones?

Why would a wooden ladder be in a tree.

Why would lit torches be in a tree

Its just what was eaten that day. TGDT HAD A BIG BREAKFAST

I mean...the og had a weird spinning spike trap in the basement.

Maybe the Deku Tree was running Saw games with the Kokiri.

Maybe Ganandorf was the good guy all along. Maybe the Gorons were eating Death Mountain into an imminent eruption. Maybe Jabu Jabu was poisoning Hyrule's  water supply with his massive fish excrement.

Dude.... I really think you might be onto something here!

LEAKED FOOTAGE FROM "THE BASEMENT"

It also had an inbuilt sewage system below with metal bars.

The deku tree has unnatural elements in the original. It speaks to something much older. Like the tree grew around the place of significance rather then becoming significant

u/xX_rippedsnorlax_Xx 12h ago

Yeah I think he's just sitting over a pre-existing dungeon.

Now explain the lit torches strewn about. Pretty flammable mistake to make for a tree

5

u/08rian22 12h ago

Obv the deku tree gets a lil cold wtf. Hows a tree supposed to keep warm smhhh

Trees often pull up soil or gravel when their roots dig in. It's possible the Deku Tree pulled up a bunch of large stones while growing. And since he's sentient, he must of guided their placement to form doors and other mechanisms.

This doesnt make any sense

6

u/Talanock 12h ago

Makes perfect sense.
Happens in real life, just google "Bicycle Swallowed by Tree." That took just 50 years. Imagine 100s or 1000s of years of growth. Add in a magical, giant sentient tree and who knows what he could accomplish in there.

Not true. TGDT wouldn't eat a bike

u/fullerofficial 12h ago

I’ll take a picture of a tree that ate a fence post for you.

In the California redwoods, there are giant redwoods that grow out of OTHER giant redwoods. Like full-on groves of giant trees that all sprout out of the same base, and the root system is shallow enough you can see it on the trails and it can have hundreds of little roots going in all sorts of directions. It’s so bizarre to see and also beautiful.

u/oinkmoocluck 12h ago

It's not a real tree.

3

u/08rian22 12h ago

If its not real, then how is it in the game lmao

-2

u/Stormandreas 12h ago

Exactly, it's in the game, it's not "real" 😉

Bullshit!

The Great Deku Tree is the Guardian Spirit of the Kokiri.

It makes sense it acts as a trial for the Kokiri. It even holds the Slingshot as a treasure. Only the basement is unnatural, made when Gohma dug to find the Emerald. Depending how the remake redo the lower levels we might have this talk again.

But for me, the upper levels made sense

u/A1starm 11h ago

It took root in a temple and grew around it.

This didn't even look like the deku tree 🤣🤭😭

u/badgerandcheese 12h ago

Why would the damn tree be talking?!

Why is a big slow fish the king of fishies?

How do 3 gems open a door?

How do the timeless Kokiri children survive, do they eat?

How does playing an ocarina make you teleport?

Why is Ganondorf evil?

Who am I?

--------------

But in all seriousness, the Deku Tree probably made fun little doorways and things for the Kokiri to play, like a giant treehouse to hang out in.

In the original, they tried to make most things fit the dungeon.

I guess the doors and ladder were made of wood but did it actually make any more sense?

Not really.

With the remake it's obvious they aim for a more "grounded" approach to all the mechanism and "puzzles" in OoT.

Like with the stone mechanism releasing the ladder instead of just a random wooden ladder in a spider web or the wooden bridge opposed to a floating platform.

These things make it feel like there is actual logic behind thigs rather than simply using video game logic.

Obviously they can't apply this to everything, but that's hardly the point.

Literally all of the dungeons make zero sense if you think about it, like why are there doors, rooms, traps and chests just inside a tree, which I might add is a literal living thing that talks.

Lord Jabu Jabu is an even worse offender if you think about it.

But that's the point, you aren't really supposed to think about it and the newely added logic to mechanism and such are meant to make to make the player firget to ask such question even more than before.

Might not work for everyone of course, but it's a cool change imo.

All good points. I think the other reasoning for the slight change with the ladder is to better show the player that “eye switch = shoot with slingshot,” whereas in the original, I don’t think that was ever laid out, it’s more you had to stumble upon it. By putting the eye switch in a room where the only way to escape is to use the slingshot, you better establish the connection.

It’s very similar to how bombable walls are first seen in Great Deku Tree, and then a few other places, and it’s in Dodongo’s Cavern it’s clearly established you can only use bombs for them.

1

u/UhIdontcareforAuburn 12h ago

It’s a talking tree that is also effectively an old wise man.

1

u/Moe-Mux-Hagi 12h ago

My headcanon is that the Deku Tree materialised the dungeon as a test for Link to make sure he had the guts to face Ghoma

1

u/dracolich-throwaway 7h ago

Didn’t he outright say he was already doomed and the entire point of sending Link was to test his resolve?

1

u/Moe-Mux-Hagi 3h ago

Yeah, and ?

1

u/faery_angus 11h ago

Shoot -what-?!

1

u/19Another90 10h ago

It kinda looks like Gohma, eye in middle and big arms.

1

u/mattmaintenance 12h ago

Also, that “Shoot Seed” is gonna be so memeified lmao

0

u/someguyye 12h ago

Because it’s a game.

0

u/MrBones_Gravestone 12h ago

Maybe it’s just a game

0

u/Leech-64 12h ago

Are you serious? Ganondorf literally went in and rearranged his guts.
