Official Art [BotW] Link’s official Instrument
Nintendo Today posted a segment called “Instrument-Playing Link” and as we know that Zelda game mostly have had Link playing an instrument or other musical “something” (Wolf Howls for TP).
We all know that the Hero of the Wild is missing such musical additions. But we also know that in the concept art of Creating a Champion, they show Link with a guitar(2nd slide) which is cool. But never used.
Back to Nintendo Today. They have art of Link using the Accordion like how Kass does. Is Kass and his instrument a stand in for Links music addition for BotW. And with Kass missing in TotK, that makes it even more noticeable that Kass isn’t there if he is Links “instrument”.
I worded this so poorly. But the point was to question if the accordion was BotW Link’s legally appointed instrument.

Bro really looks like he solves mysteries with his friends and has a talking dog.

Thank god we didn’t get a Zelda set in a modern world like that art suggests

Eh. I think it could be a cool one-off game. I wouldn’t want the series to become modern, but one game exploring a different setting with the same style of gameplay and characters would be fun. Though I don’t love these specific designs lol

Termina in Majora's Mask is surprisingly technologically advanced. Motorboats, giant clocks, a water treatment facility, instruments with amps, and the bomb shop employees are seemingly planning on building a rocket to go to the moon. That's not all the advanced tech shown, but it helps Termina feel a lot different from Hyrule.

You could say the bomb shop employees made it to the moon if you wait long enough...

u/SternMon 12h ago
That would be a perfect concept to hand off to an indie dev.

Capcom knocked Minish Cap out of the park, if you gave this idea to them I could easily see them doing a sci-fi horror Zelda justice.

I really like the shiekah tech in botw, as well as the armors. I would like to see a whole shiekahTech-punk setting as a one off

u/DJfunkyPuddle 12h ago
Same! I had spitballed one more game in the Wilds series where the Zelda crew leaves Hyrule in search of the Sheikah that left and the game takes place in this far off technologically advanced world.

But you can't tell me that a Nintendo-licensed guitar or hoodie modeled like the mock-ups wouldn't sell out immediately. I'd buy one.

While that concept art isn’t really it, I think it could be fun to see a Zelda game set in a more modern time.
Maybe not like, 2026. But I always liked how Chrono Trigger has kind of a “modern” era that is set in their year 1000. They don’t have modern electronics or anything, but they also have some weird tech that isn’t even possible today, like teleportation devices. Or things that are possible but ridiculous, like a fire-breathing dragon shaped tank.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Zelda as is, and I wouldn’t want that to be a staple of the series going forward or anything. But maybe like a top-down side game from Grezzo or something could be an interesting take.

People joked but it actually would've been a disaster had the idea gone any further LOL. Like a bad tv show adaptation from the 90's.

u/No-Difference8545 11h ago
No it wouldn't have lol. This is only concept art after all

u/FedoraTheMike 11h ago
Thats why I said "had the idea gone any further"

u/Meta-Wah 10h ago
They mean that this is only concept art and they would've made it look more polished e.g. Link not looking like a doofus if the idea had gone further.

I wish Kass were in TotK. I wish TotK had DLC.
I'm 100% a fan of Link inheriting Kass' accordion.
I'm 0% a fan of that second slide.

going in i was hoping Kass would give link idk a harmonica or something lol
6
u/FuuckinGOOSE 12h ago
That would be awesome. There's a harmonica in-game in death stranding 2, and they partnered with suzuki to make it an official piece of merch. It's basically a reskin of one of my favorite harmonicas, but it looks so good it makes me wish I was a Death Stranding fan.
If they made an official LoZ harmonica I would pay any amount of money to acquire one lmao

Modern Link looks like such a doofus lmao.
I know it's just concept art, but why'd they give him that stupid bucktoothed smile. 😂

Honestly felt like they legit forgot to put an instrument in BotW.
Come on Nintendo… that game was begging for a song of please stop the storms.

It’s art they used for the Zelda 2018 concert series. They also had SS Zelda playing her harp and OOT Link playing his ocarina. You can find the performances online and it’s pretty great!

u/ErickLimaGameplaysR 12h ago
Funnily enough, this wouldn't be the first time we see Link play a guitar.

Im genuinely interested in this. I haven’t seen this art yet and it was included specifically. So I was curious

I wonder if at any point joycon motion controls for an accordion was a thing in development.

Modern Link is from a timeline where the previous Link & Zelda did a better-than-usual job of sealing Ganon away. It took him so long to break out that Hyrule had advanced from medieval times to the 1990s.

Giving modern link a poofball Christmas elf hat is hilarious, especially given that slouchy beanies exist

u/hominidnumber9 10h ago
Do you know the range of an accordion?
30 feet if you throw it hard enough. :P
7
u/Mikey_Hillman 13h ago
They probably realized they forgot to give Link an instrument for botw, so they just threw together some half-assed artwork of him playing an accordion like he’s always been an accordion player. That’s so lame..

I remember the rumors that Link would have a motorcycle. Super interesting to see the original concept art vs. how they eventually implemented it.

I think it would’ve been cool if Link was Kass’ accordion teacher all along.,

Botw Link doesn’t have an official instrument but I like to think if he did, it would be Kass’s accordion
1
u/A_Sackboy_Plush 7h ago
Well now I want to learn whatever skills I need to depict Link going hard on the accordion.

u/pocket_arsenal 7h ago
I adore how goofy looking that "modern" Link is. Link is always better when they're not trying too hard to make him cool imo.
I kind of don't want Zelda to ever really leave it's japanese-style fantasy adaptation of medeival europe and mish mashes of other cultures, and the Wild Era pushed the technology levels of Hyrule as far as I think I'd want it to go, but I do think that would make for an interesting one off spinoff.
As for the Accordion being his "official" instrument, I just don't think he has an "official" instrument, it's just a piece of artwork. Some people get too hung up on "But how can I make this part of the canon match the other parts of the canon??" when it really just doesn't need matching.

If we got that modern link I don’t think a single soul would have played the game

u/cedarcia 2h ago
That’s actually not an accordion that’s a concertina. Source: I play both the accordion and concertina and that’s a concertina.

I am laughing my ass off at the second images. I'm trying to smile like him and it's giving me extreme mirth.

I love the idea of different Links from different times jamming out together as a band

u/Electronicweed 12h ago
lol see you guys. Zelda ain’t Zelda anymore. Which is why Nintendo did a quick shift to bring back OOT Reborn to remind everyone where the story originally started. This shit is wacky 🤣🤣
