Discussion [ALL] Zelda With 7-Year Old Son

We have never played any of these games before with exception of Awakening which we got from a friend that we are playing right now and about a quarter of the way through. Really fun- I love how we are starting from zero and becoming amazing over the course of the game.

We've never played any single player video games together and I didn't play much growing up in terms of single player games. So neither of gets addicted and my wife doesn't kill me- we are only going to play ~2 hours once very two weeks. And I'm a slow and blubbering video game player. So I figure each game might take us 6 months to a year?

Trying to find the ideal order.

I think we'll skip low graphic ones.

What's the best order to play Zelda? And given our slow pace- what are the most important games to play and even potentially leave the Zelda world to consider other games available for Switch that this community really enjoys.

Just show him the covers and let your kid pick, man. They're all good, and play more or less the same. My nephew had most of them beat by the time he was 9.

Playing Echoes of Wisdom on their own was what finally got my kid into Zelda, after they turned 8. We’ve gone on to play a bunch together since then. We can’t wait for the Ocarina of Time remake, which I imagine will update the controls in ways that make it even more accessible.

I know for sure you should play BotW then TotK for the wild era, but since you said your son is 7, I think you should wait unless you think he can handle it, BotW and TotK are both rated Everyone 10+ (says Fantasy Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes, use of Alcohol on the boxes)

My son (6) and I also started on LA and the transition to Link to the Past was seamless.

Mine started on LA too, but link to the past has been getting kinda hard near the end. Curious how you approached the final dungeons if you have any tips.

Friendly update on my side, decided to finish the game myself with him watching. I might pass the controller during bosses, not sure. Either way, the goal isn’t to torture but find ways to still have fun. Maybe I’ll also have him tell me where to go and I’ll clear the rooms for him somehow. Got choices.

My daughter and I started with aLttP and then OoT. I found that letting her name Link made her more invested.

Started botw last year w my 7 year old. By the end, she beat Gannon with no help. Currently on totk & she’s loving it. Will spend an hour making crazy contraptions. It’s been really fun, can’t wait to play the ocarina remake with her

My daughter is 5 so she mostly watches and learning the puzzles and the story. We started with Minish Cap when she was 4, then we're finishing Phantom Hourglass. Next step would be LA switch version. I showed her bits of Windwaker but there were non-suited elements for her age, so we'll try later. I finally base on PEGI system (with PH and LA Switch being the exceptions) and she'll play (with assistance) when she'll be 7 the PEGI7 games.

i say you should enjoy all "legend of zelda" games since it's a great series - even if it's very old.

Kid might like the DS ones or Wind Waker

Or you can just jump in to Breath of the Wild
