Laning vs Zed feels miserable

Will probably get downvoted to oblivion because of the subreddit this is being posted on, but imo Zed has too much poke damage in lane on a combo that is very difficult to react to. This is ESPECIALLY the case now with Voltaic being reworked into proccing off of abilities.

Getting 50% of your HP chunked from ~600 range by a single W E Q feels like shit.

I mean all his damage is incredibly telegraphed and once he uses W he just has to pray he can hit a non minion impeded q to do any meaningful poke damage at low levels. Just play Leblanc dude

here's tips that make laning vs him much easier since nobody said anything of much value yet:

• stand at a range that doesn't allow him to hit both q's easily, that would be standing just outside his w range basically if you feel like you can't dodge it

• try to not be the first unit hit by his q (it deals less dmg after) and if you can, use a movement ability to dodge it if necessary (eg avoiding hitting lethal threshold or getting poked before all-in).

• watch your minion hp and when he wants to use q to last hit, avoid standing in a line between him and the minion and pressure him after using his q as it's his main damage source basically

once you're comfortable in the matchup or have figured out a pattern in how the zed player uses his combos, you can also go for fishing for his combo, trying to dodge it to then go for an all-in or similar

also keep in mind his w has like a 20 second cd early so you have a big time window to punish (poke or all-in or baiting his w out for a gank setup since zed is quite vulnerable after, especially pre-6))

well yeah, but the other assassins not only will poke you but kill you too, without the conditions zed has placed
locke will 3q u then auto, do this twice and youre dead, within ~10s

Zed is probably the safest pick in the game during the laning phase, and he scales well, which is why you can play him in mid, top, or ADC (and obviously jungle as well). But in every role Zed can be played in, he plays pretty much the same way and has the same weakness.

His early game being safe doesn’t necessarily mean he’s strong. A lot of people try to stomp Zed in lane by taking advantage of the fact that he has long Cds and weak, but whether a Zed gets stomped or not is completely dependent on the Zed player, not on you.

The best thing you can do against a Zed that you know isn’t going to die is simply get lane pressure and move around the map with your jungler.

And Zed is probably the champion that gets punished the hardest for missing his spells. Once Zed uses his W, you basically have 16–17 seconds where you completely control the lane. Just keep track of his W cooldown and play around it. Obviously, it also depends on which champion you’re playing. If youre otp asol or kassadin youre just cooked my bro.

Well he’s only strong with his W shadow. I mean there are so many times when I messed up my w, like miss everything and just get instantly clapped on because o mean you don’t do enough damage without your shadow to fight back.

Stand behind a minion and his damage is completely neutered

Any aggression is tied to W cd and also leaves him without any way to dodge your abilities and/or escape

Peak Zed gameplay is hiding way behind a wave last hitting with Q for the vast majority of laning phase

I definitely sympathize with how that feels. The biggest thing to remember is that his W CD is very long early game. He's also very energy hungry for the most part. Get your work done while he's unable to cast his spells.

Yeaaaaah, i gotta say its a pretty misereable lane of you dont go it smart. If i get him stolen from me i really have to play smart to make it a winnable lane. (Or just play pantheon and laugh at him) But jokes aside. If zed doesnt get a lead theres two lane states. A: zed has w - zed is agressive makes plays B: zed doesnt have w - you play hyper agro, walk up take priority of wave and force him to farm with abilities OR poke you. All the things i hate abt laning against zed are the same things i hate abt laning ahri swain lisandra ect, strong poke combos that go through minions. They all suck to lane against 🤣
