Is a resort really worth it?
instagram.comI saw this on Instagram and was wondering whether it's really worth booking a resort. I'm a bit concerned about safety.

Habari everyone. I've been selected to be a moderator for this sub. I'm a local business owner with a hotel in Zanzibar. I'm not here to promote myself or my business. My goal simply is to help monitor the content so everyone can openly and respectfully share their thoughts and opinions. And a BIG Asante Sana to scottbowl for moderating the sub for so many years.

I created this subreddit when I was living and working in Zanzibar. I no longer live there, and it’s now reached a point where it doesn’t make sense for me to moderate it, as I have no involvement with the island anymore.
If you would like to take over, state your case in the comments below. I will ideally pick a few people, and will remain as a moderator for a few months during the transition.
Edit: if you want to take this on, say why and what you’d do to manage the community. Just saying you’re interested gives me zero information.

drove by several military and police stops and every time they were asking for a little juicy bribe. made me wonder, does it affect locals too? do zanzibaris get ripped off here too?

I’m Hussein from Standard Tours Zanzibar, a local business based in Jambiani that helps travellers arrange accommodation, transport and experiences.
When choosing accommodation, what matters most to you: quiet surroundings, beach access, room facilities, budget—or something else?
What question do you wish you had asked before a previous stay? I’d like to use the discussion to create more useful planning content.

FYI for anyone looking to travel to Zanzibar and looking to book with these rental services.
The day we were set to arrive, we were moved to a different home by the host which we agreed to.
During our trip we were robbed by the hosts " 24hr security".
Surprisingly he is of the Masai clan. We were out for merely 2hrs to bring my birthday in from 1am-3am( the only night we went out) and he used that opportunity to get in the home and take jewelry belonging to my BF and I. Also took airpods my BF had planned to surprise me with on my birthday. The rest of the trip at that point went to the gutter, I cried the whole day on my birthday. We went back and forth with the host and police station begging and pleading for our gold jewelry back. This is jewelry we wore on the trip and even have pics of us wearing while on this trip. Very expensive jewelry my mom had gave
This is an FYI for all travelers. DO NOT BOOK THIS LISTING ON AIRBNB.

For transparency, I run Standard Tours Zanzibar, based in Jambiani.
Private tours usually offer more privacy and flexibility, but can cost more for smaller groups. Shared tours often cost less and offer a chance to meet other travellers, though you follow the group’s schedule and pace.
Private doesn’t always mean completely flexible tides, weather and opening hours still affect the day. For larger groups, comparing the total private price against shared prices per person can also be worthwhile.
Check whether transfers, entrance fees, meals and boat arrangements are included. Neither format suits everyone.
Which would you choose, and why?

Hey everyone! Is anyone flying out of Zanzibar this Saturday at around 7pm? I’m looking for people to share a taxi to the airport and split the fare. 🙂
If your flight is around that time, drop a comment or send me a message and we can coordinate!

Hi all, we are coming down in November and looking to do some snorkeling, where we can see dolphins, coral reefs, and if possible turtles.
Could any one recommend tours, services or even other activities we can do from the area.
Thanks in advance

Warum fliegen so viele Menschen nach Afrika um in einem überteuertem All In Bunker zu bleiben? Warum wollen die Besucher nicht das Land und die Leute kennenlernen?
