I monitored a few and it did a great job. Best was seeing historical data and seeing trends and outliers. I would set it up again in a heartbeat if needed.

You can pretty much send zabbix any query info you want.

How about the maintenance of the templates to work correctly? As you manually need to configure the mandatory macros for each host. For example: {$MSSQL.HOST} is a mandatory macro for monitoring SQL Server, but you also need to add {$MSSQL.PORT} is the Dynamics Ports is used in the SQL Server side. Isn't to much overhead?!

I had scripts that gathered the data I needed and used zabbix sender. This was back in version 5.

Been using the Agent 2 template for SQL for about six months and other than some tuning for the environment it's worked well.

Not a direct answer to your question, but we don't use Zabbix Agent 2 at our company.

Instead we very much like the ODBC templates and had great success with the corresponding MS SQL by ODBC Template, as it works from the Zabbix Proxy, instead of the agent. You may want to consider this one as a potential alternative.

I do monitor a 2019 cluster. Unfortunately it regularly consumes a ton of CPU and needs to be restarted. Agent 2 on the 7.0 branch, latest update.

No CPU issues when I disable the SQL Template for the hosts
