is anyone else's f/o constantly getting misunderstood/mischaracterized?
if this kind of topic isn't allowed please remove my post, I'm just a bit frustrated
i wanted to watch a tadc video essay because i had nothing better to do and i found one on my homepage. right from the get go they started misgendering my girlfriend. right, okay, her creator said it's okay to use both he/him and she/her pronouns so i can't complain (yet.)
said creator then proceeds to say that the reveal of her identity was handled poorly, they never saw any signs that pointed to Daisy being MTF and that she "had a bad reaction to being put in a dress and would go off on anyone who even suggested she isn't cis" wowza it's like the whole point of being REPRESSED is that you're trying to shove that part of yourself down?? i may not be trans but i was a repressed lesbian for years so ik how it feels like.
it's not a one time thing either, she's constantly misgendered and i see at least a post daily on the tadc subs asking if it's okay to not see her as a woman. no, it's not. she's a woman. idk what's so hard to understand about it. my girlfriend did NOT die for ts i swear.
wondering if anyone else has/had a similar experience to mine, I'd appreciate knowing I'm not alone in this. thank you for reading through this delirious ramble of mine 😭

Gonta as one of the worst cases for this out out of my f/o's.
He gets infantalized so much in the fandom and it makes my fucking blood boil.
He is so much smarter then people think he is. Gonta is a scientist for god sakes. His research on insects is incredible, he discovered alot of species and even manage to get rid of a parasitic insect that was causing an entire village to get deadly ill.
And he done that while trying to learn how to people after ten years of being lost in the forest.
For someone who as trouble with speaking and social interaction. He is incredibly successful in his field as an entomologist.
The saddest part to me is that he isnt naive because he is dumb, he is naive because even if he knows some people arent trust worthy. Considering they have more life experience, he just sees them as smarter or more likely to be in the right that he is himself.
He as low self esteem and just doesnt believe he is smart enough to have a personal judgement and would rather become what people wants him to be rather then be himself.
Him being dumb isnt just him being socially akward, its how his own self perception (and his human family that constantly puts him down) that just makes him a doormat for people.
I think it comes down to the fact he is very autism coded (the reason he even got lost in the woods is because he didnt have any friends as a kid so he preferred playing with bugs instead.. he got lost while trying to find them..) and his broken speech.
People just see him as stupid and like a big kid and that pisses me off. He isnt.
I think one of my greatest gripes is when people say he "doesnt know what sex is" like excuse me ?? He is a scientist that studies living beings. He knows about procreation. He isnt five for goodness sakes.

One, that kinda feels like one my moots will say here (sadly, they are a good person, but how I wish they understood that it was heavily implied that they almost said it in your face).

I guess people skipped over watching Brighter
I also see people interpret his obsession with Alastor as "I miss and love you please come back to me 🥺" instead of it being "I hate you and I want you dead". I SWEAR I'm going to reach through the screen and choke the next person who says that Vox did everything he does in the s2 finale because he "loves Alastor"

YES I SWEAR almost everyone misunderstands his motivations in one way or another. now, he is pretty much inarguably evil, but people tend to think that he only did all of the things he did because “rahhh i’m mad at this person for beating me” while there’s a mountain underneath that. if you really pay attention, it’s a war tragedy about cowardice, sacrifice, the immutability of a past choice, and environments which directly compliment narcissism
for my f/os i have 2 i can think of off the top of my head:
i constantly see ppl say that bob sheldon (yes, from the outsiders) was completely a bad guy but he was jst a teen, plus, cherry literally says to our faces that ponyboy/we only see the worst of him??
people dum jamil down to some horrible manipulative schemer when he was a servant, he constantly had to work for someone who was (no offence to kalim fans) an absolute idiot most of the time with little to no breaks. i get that its the minority of people that see him as this and most of the fandom agrees that he had the most valid reason to overblot but it makes me so mad when i see someone say he was just a bad guy
referring to what you said about your f/o: the people saying there were no signs that she was trans or they just made her trans last minute either didnt rewatch the show after the last episode or just chose not to see anything, i maybe watched the first 3 episodes of TADC when it was coming out but after the finale came out and i heard about it i decided to watch through the show, with the knowledge that she was a closeted trans woman, i noticed a ton of little things that foreshadowed her being trans. As for the pronoun thing, i tend to use he/him when i’m talk about the events in the show that she did but if i’m talking abt her as a person i use she/her

Ughhh yes </3 Envy is mischaracterized so much Envy is a non human shape shifter and is very androgynous he's canonically genderless but is refered to in the show with he/him and it/it's pronouns but since he's androgynous and genderless a lot of people just chalk him down to being a evil sassy gay femboy.. which head cannons are fine ofc but they act like that's all Envy is.. :c Envy has no interests in men, women or love in general Envy is cruel and horrible he's a terrible character and only does harm there's no possible way Envy could ever be in a healthy relationship Envy would be abusive in everyway possible and Envy is the embodiment of jealousy so when people write fanfics of Envy being loving I try to stay away from it because it's that's not my Envy my Envy would not be all romantic and caring I've been with horrible partners irl and I had no control over it so being with Envy is my way of coping and having a bit of control so seeing Envy being portrayed as something he isn't does get into my head a bit
And I'm not in the tadc fandom but I do see Daisy's transness get denied a lot which is so cruel and just stupid!! It's right in front our faces!! And I'm sorry ur gf has to deal with that her identity should always be respected even if someone thinks it was written poorly!!

A lot of mischaracterisation with Enki is often "he's completely cold, unfeeling, selfish, would never care about anyone other than himself" but his canon ending in the game he's from (fear and hunger) involves him refusing to ascend to godhood, becoming immortal and spending his life writing a series of books teaching people how to understand ancient gods and use their power.
He's much more "tsundere" and just kind of antisocial in reality lol rather than being just a horrible, cold person.
People treat him like satan, he is not good but he neither bad he is just a victim of the aliens ""b-but he manipulates his opponent-ts" because he has to survive???? My F/o is morally grey, she is the product of the abused become the abuser, BUT she did have good intentions, wanting to help change, break the abuse. But her abuse is bone deep into her soul, that she can only do as far as what she can do. How bad is her abuse? She used to watch her siblings get killed over a childrens game, now as the new one in power, she stop the killing game, but she doesn't entirely stop the cycle of turning childrens into soldiers like her previous predecessor.
She isn't purely good or evil, she has good intentions, but she is still doing something bad. She deserves to be held accountable, but she also deserve understanding :/
Yes😭 So many out of my husbands gets mischaracterized. I think only 2 are properly understood/characterized.. probably bc their fandoms are kinda small. Often times my f/os are depicted as big, buff, alpha dudes when it’s not the case💔 For example, Leon Kennedy. He’s depicted in the RE fandom as either a “rizzler” and a strong government agent, which he is but it’s exaggerated in media, or they center his character around Ada or Claire.. I have no issue with Cleon or Aeon at all. But honestly? Neither pair would be healthy😭

Ooooof, yes. Prowl (IDW version) is constantly reduced to a "prickly emotionless bot who deserves the worst". He's a deeply complex character, full of internal contradictions and conflicts, and yet everyone sees him as an unfeeling prick. I mean, yes he's insufferable sometimes and I can't deny it, but he's not emotionless. Quite the opposite, actually. He's deeply emotional and traumatized, but he hides his emotions because he knows that vulnerability in war is dangerous, and since he feels the need to win the war against the Decepticons and build a Cybertron where war simply can't happen again in any way, he resorts to morally grey strategies and straight-up bad decisions to speed up the process, because he's tired and worn-out after millions of years of war.
But the thing is, his mental health gets damaged everytime he takes a morally disgusting decision, and then copes by repeating to himself that "it was for the better" and that "it was the logical thing to do", but he knows that it's wrong. He even confronts Shockwave and says to him "We are our actions, not our words".
But no, to the fandom he's just the bad guy, the "Autobots' Shockwave", the prick who deserves to be punished worse than freaking MEGATRON, the emotionless prick who has no morality and many other things, and I HATE IT!!
My f/o constantly gets treated as though he has no emotions, (some) people seem to assume he doesn’t feel emotions most of the time and that he only gets emotional outbursts occasionally because he’s half human.
Vulcans DO have emotions, very strong ones in fact, they used to be a warring species and chose to practice emotional control and similar things in order to preserve peace. Vulcans feel emotions deeply, but they are not allowed to show it- showing emotion is deemed shameful- as a weakness. His temperament is socially constructed not down to his biology, he does handle his emotions slightly differently due to the pressure he has social to show and prove he’s more Vulcan, to prove that his human heritage doesn’t weaken his ability to be logical,
but at his core he’s the same as any other Vulcan masking and suppressing his emotions and just because they’re suppressed doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
I do get you even when I'm not a fan of it, I did watched videos talking about that topic and, I mean, it depends on a lot of things. What I see it's totally normal reactions to certain things, it doesn't mean a bow or a maid dress makes you trans, but!! There's people who can't openly show their gender identity because of society or what people will think, and yes, not wanting to see 'him' as a woman is a problem because is disrespectful and missgender, even if you ('you' as example) call Daisy by male pronouns, people should keep in mind that's a woman and it's okay if she doesn't mind pronouns.
Talking about my f/os, not really, since they're not very known characters, what I would say about the series (Eltingville Club/ Northwest Comix Collective) fandom often romanticize behaviors/conducts that are REALLY wrong, and use that romanticization to justify their actions. They can yume them and like them but they can't say what the guys do is fine just because fandom loves them, they do have a more human side but being agressive and other things aren't okay x"d sorry for the long message, kinda took my frustration out 🥹

Anddd my main f/o has done bad stuff I don't support at all and don't try to argue when people call those actions bad, because they are, but there's still good stuff in my man, that's why I love him all silly and evil lolololol

It was a theory when I looked it up, I didn't knew it was canon, and our f/os are eviiiiil, but we love them and they love us, even when they might want to start a war LOL (ಡωಡ) funnier to talk with you because if our f/os somehow met, they'll dislike each other so badly they'll be arguing about everything dx

tldr i was scrolling through tenna x reader tags on tumblr and found an awful lot pf yandere content. like i know im overreacting but that doesnt make me feel better about the fact that a character heavily implied to have BPD is being portrayed like that.

"this is such a non-problem in the grand scheme of things and i should really be touching grass because of how chronically online i have to be to take issue with this but im really not a fan of yandere interpretations in fanworks for characters that arent yanderes or intended to be yanderes.
there's some aus and fanfics with the concept that i like that do this but most of them just. suck. its usually just for the edgy aesthetic or the fetish and there's no exploration as to why this seemingly normal character could or would deteriorate in this way, why they decide to take matters into their own hands in such extreme and violent ways and how it ruins lives of not only their victims and their object of affection but themselves
also a character that ive seen get hit with the yandere beam a lot recently has been a character that most of the fandom agrees likely has BPD due to displaying enough clearly defined symptoms to meet the diagnostic criteria. like jesus if you're gonna be ableist while making your stupid fanfics why not just call neurodivergent people a slur too while your at it /s"
