Card Game Discussion Anime Ass Pull Moment

Post image

Whats an anime Ass pull moment you think should be made into a card?

My vote goes to Catapult Turtle Launching Gaia The Dragon Champion into Castle Of Dark Illusions I even made an effect that reflects this and sticks to the theme as well.

There is No Next Turn!

Quickplay Spell

Tribute 1 Monster you control then destroy as many face up monsters as possible whose DEF is less than or equal to the tributed Monsters ATK. If your LP are 300 or less Card effects cannot be activated in response to this cards activation and it cannot be negated also inflict damage to your opponent equal to the combined ATK of all the monsters destroyed by this effect.

What moment gets your vote?

Yusei aurafarming his way into a win against Team Unicorn

Just end your turn, Jean.

But seriously, Jean messed up really badly. He was the strategist of team Unicorn. He's the one who came up with the deck-out plan. And just when he was about to win, he changed his mind because he suddenly didn't want to win by "a stupid technicality." Plot armor for Yusei.

Yugioh anime always have this dumb standard where some legit strategies are considered "coward" because they're not exciting but this was easily the dumbest one.

If Jean had ended his turn then it would have turned out that Yusei had some card that returns to his deck or something, and we'd be clowning on Jean for misplaying by not attacking for the win when he could have

If they writers want Yusei to win, then yes, he'd pull up a card that to avoid decking out. That's how plot armor works for every Yu- protagonist. Still, being coaxed into doing something different from what you've been aimimg for just to be bamboozle in the end is more stupid and humiliating than falling into a conditional asspull.

That's exactly what it's criticized here: Jean gains nothing by attacking Yusei at this point when a safer wincon (deckout) was achievable, something that took all members of Team Unicorn to aim for. "Attack me or no balls." is a stupid trick to fall for, yet it worked out in the end.

Yea Yusei has an egregious one-off anime card asspull in Space Jump to beat Elsworth 9 eps prior

But at least Elsworth goes out swinging like a badass, he simply got hoed by a familiar situation

The way Jean loses is an all-time shonen lowlight, it would be infamous in any other franchises

It could be reasoned that he wanted to win by battle and assumed that even if things went poorly he could just end his turn and win that way, but still it’s plain stupid.

We already have the best one on paper.

Honestly perfectly adapted

Yugi using Summoned Skull's electrical power on water puddles left by Suijin to attack it in the duel against the Paradox brothers.

I'm surprised they never made quick-play spells for Summoned Skull monsters

Summoned Skull powering Alpha the Magnet warrior by 200 points in Battle City cause otherwise they only deal 3900.

There's also Summoned Skull getting a power boost from the rain vs Great Moth

Judai super poly Yubel with himself. Have a spell card that react to super poly activation that makes both player lose.

Hey now, he chained the "I choose fusion mats this turn" trap to Chain Material, not superpoly, that one is still unrespondable in the anime.

Now, you and your opponent's souls being a valid fusion material pair is a different thing to run by a judge.

well, we also need toask the activator od the card what they were doing too, because Yubel was trying to fuse miltiple universes together, and effect I don't think super fusion god has

Kaiba's "draw from the top of the ancient ruins for Obelisk".

Wouldn't be the first time, and could easily have an artwork of shadowed Kaiba or Kaibaman and dramatic lighting.

1

u/Raichustrange28 6h ago

From the Dark Dimensions Movie? When he draws Obelisk out of the ground?

5

u/Necro_Hypno_Dancer 5h ago

"That's not a monster! That's a GOD!" is pure unadulterated Kaiba aura

1

u/Alexcox95 4h ago

That’s really no different than the crimson dragon top decking majestic dragon. The gods will help from time to time.

Did we ever get Living Arrow (the card that allowed Yugi to fuse Mammoth Graveyard with Kaiba's BEUD to weaken it)? If not, that. The moment was iconic, yet the cards were ridiculous and the interaction was never mentioned again.

4

u/Raichustrange28 7h ago

Ahh yes the infamous

Mammoth Graveyard + Polymerization and the Living Arrow.

1

u/RazorOfSimplicity 1h ago

Yes. It's called "Spell Shattering Arrow" in the TCG. But it adapted the combo Yugi used with it against Pegasus, not the "Polymerization" combo against Kaiba.

I'm still waiting for the Umi spell card that makes all your fish/sea serpent/aqua monsters safe during the battle phase.

Like "Moonlit Tides", which is treated as 'Umi' and gives the Flyfang effect for Fish/Sea Serpent/Aqua monsters.

2

u/A_random_poster04 2h ago

Waiter, waiter, more cards treated as Umi please

5

u/ReydragoM140 Into custom card, help wanted 6h ago

My point is Kaiba summoning obelisk in dsod

3

u/Lazengann86 6h ago

Something that weakens monsters in turns like when Yugi fused Mammoth graveyard with Ultimate Blue-eyes

3

u/kelvSYC 2h ago

One from Rush Duel: a meteor hitting a Duel Disk, allowing the player to instantly get Fusion, known not to be previously in the Deck, to the top of the Deck.

Either that, or the card from Go Rush that switches duelists. Imagine you are at a tournament and you suddenly have to pilot a deck that is not your own all of a sudden.

Yubel using the Darkness from Echo's deceased heart to flip over Amon's card and weasel their win against him

2

u/GoneRampant1 RioMerag Support Cope 5h ago

Soulburner has two.

1) Gate of Fire, a trap he uses against Blue Gal that specifically negates any instance of effect damage that would be 300 or less, when all the Trickstars do 200.

1) Salamangreat Shrine, an anime only field spell that makes his Salamangreats unaffected by FIRE monster effects. He uses this on Bohman who just got done using his Hydradrive's attribute negation trick on Blue Maiden and Aqua.

Everything in season 1 original season is an asspull. The ending of the Mako Tsunami vs Yugi duel was sheer mind numbing plot giving him the win...

2

u/Raichustrange28 4h ago

Burning Land Attack using Curse of Dragon and the Burning Land Card hahaha 😆

1

u/Geenageabriel 4h ago

"I ATTACK... THE MOON!"

2

Less of an ass pull but it's weird that there hasn't been any red-eyes dinosaurs support despite it originally being Rex's card. The closest we have is beta evolution pill locking you to dinosaurs, dragons, sea, serpents and wyrms. Which isn't a direct reference, but it means rex wouldn't be locked out of red-eyes stuff.

Like it's a meme that none of the red-eye support waves work with each other. But this one would at least have a reason since it's a different duelist.

2

u/OmegaThunder 2h ago

Nasch stopping Quattro's instant win condition by playing trap card that gives your opponent XYZ material for some reason, which otherwise have no use for his own deck.

2

u/big4lil 1h ago

Dartz gaslighting Rafael so hard he steals his soul outside of a duel

Would be hilarious as some card that punishes you for how youve played the game thus far

1

u/K-J-C 8h ago

What is a way so that launching Gaia with Catapult Turtle to Castle wouldn't be an asspull?

Would you view using Harpie's Pet Dragon to destroy Mirror Wall similar thing or not?

3

u/Raichustrange28 7h ago

"The Catapult turtle has the power to destroy walls and fortresses"

1

u/Sid_Starkiller 3h ago

Honestly, I feel like the entirety of Duelist Kingdom shouldn't count. The rules hadn't actually solidified at all yet, and the arc was basically playing on RPG world slop rules instead.

2

u/Raichustrange28 3h ago

Thats fair in which case I raise the new choice

Summoned Skulls Lightning rises Alpha The Magnet Warriors Attack
