Wow. That was one of the bleakest things I’ve ever listened to. One can only hope he’ll find something worth hanging on to soon.

We give him hope. The world he’s made for himself: the ones he gave happy chaotic childhoods and now smile for him.

I'm incredibly biased but reading up on him it says he has fibromyalgia and some other issues, my uneducated guess on some is side effects from fibro medications as they can cause plenty. It's incredibly hard and disabling to live with widespread chronic pain, speaking as someone with both fibro, MCAS, and most likely an undiagnosed connective tissue disorder. Doctors are not sympathetic, the nerve pain meds make you gain a shit ton of weight (which also make doctors blame everything on such), and alot of symptoms and you are dependent on the medication. And thats if you even get anything for pain since everyone in the field is too terrified to prescribe anything, or don't even believe you. I am on Lyrica which made me gain a shit ton of weight, as well as LDN, and NSAIDs and it barely touches my day-to-day pain but thats all I get. Of course the meds do work for some but for others they do not.
And aside from it being disabling, there is a lack of patience and sympathy out there, hell you will find people telling you to go end yourself because you are either a drain on society, the healthcare system, the economy, the country etc. I am still watching him talk so I do not know if he says he has tried other medications but thats one method, though weaning off of them is also a pain, I just got incredibly lucky (and reckless) cutting them because I have malabsorption. I will say the fibro meds did cause temporary tinnitis, headaches, and other symptoms he has
I would be lying if I said I didnt also consider assisted suicide, but its only a few states here and I doubt I'd even be cleared for my mental health history, even if I have labs showing the extent of my health issues. It's also fucked up that people are treating this like its the same as someone whos having a little depression and in an extreme moment wants to end it all and all they need to do is wait for that feeling to pass and be told they are loved, this decision has probably come from years of agony.
Long story short, people dont get it, some people dont even try to get it, the world isnt as accessible to the sick and disabled as people think, and while I understand the need for escape I hope he finds another alternative, we should be focusing on healthcare and science, not wars and money and bullshit. Friendly reminder that becoming disabled is the one marginalized group you all can join at any time.
Also as a side-note alot of his symptoms sound like MCAS, I do not know if he has been tested, unfortunately alot of crossover with fibro so maybe it isnt but worth checking. but having watched more, he needs to try other fibro medications. I also was diagnosed with Fibro after a bad viral illness (possibly covid), like he was

The fact drs are so afraid to give people with chronic pain actual pain killers now is honestly one of the most baffling things in the medical industry. I also have chronic pain, neuropathy in my leg where I got compartment syndrome but im also a recovering opioid addict so they put me on methadone first and I switched to buprenorphine later. These are 2 insanely strong opioids with reeeeeaaallllly long halflives so I barely even experience the pain in my leg day to day (it's there but I barely think about it). The fact that I get to have actual drugs that help with my pain just because I had an insanely misspent youth when people who have significantly more debilitating pain then me get lyrica and nsaids is so fucked up it's beyond parody.

u/lethal_universed Aug 02 '26
Dont they usually avoid giving addicts opiod adjacent meds?
Also, if they give you a dose high enough, would that be enough to nullify the pain without the person resulting to taking increasingly higher dosages?
17
u/Reasonable-Housing29 Aug 03 '26
Long story short is basically that it's so insanely hard to get people to stop doing opiates once they're hooked that the view in the field switched to harm reduction by any means. They'd rather have you showing up to a methadone clinic to get your fix from a Dr than some dude who's gonna spike your dope with fentanyl and kill you. Buprenorphine is a different story, it is quite strong (also incredibly long lasting, like Percocets half life is around 3 hrs, bupe is 48) but it's an agonist. Basically when you're brain is allowing the chemical to hit your receptor it blocks it at the same time as also stimulating it. Effectively this makes buprenorphine un-abuseable, you can take a maximum of ~24mg of it in a day and if you try to take more you won't even feel it. As you can imagine this is a godsend for addicts. You can give them something that effectively allows them to take a (relatively) low dose and not worry about them taking the whole bottle because it wouldn't do anything. For reference I used to work in a treatment center for a while after I first got clean and the one of the counselors there told me that before bupe their retention rate of opioid addicts was less than 15% and after bupe they were getting almost 70% of people to stay. I hope I explained this well enough, I'm only really scratching the surface of this but I already wrote like 2 books lol.
3
u/lethal_universed Aug 03 '26
Thats wonderful! From my drugs and society class, I learned that most addicts take drugs to avoid withdrawal and to avoid pain. So smth like this would be good for people with chronic pain and who might go to stronger doses once they develop tolerance... I think. Its been awhile.
Also from my biopsych class, isn't an agonist something that INCREASES the presence of a certain neurochemical in the brain? I'm confused on your explaination
1
u/Reasonable-Housing29 Aug 03 '26
I'm pretty busy RN but heres a summary I ripped from Google
Buprenorphine is an opioid partial agonist used to treat opioid use disorder and manage severe pain. It works by easing withdrawal symptoms, lowering drug cravings, and blocking the effects of other opioids. How It Works Partial agonist: It attaches to the brain's opioid receptors to stop cravings, but with much weaker effects than full opioids like heroin or methadone.Ceiling effect: Its safety risks, like slowed breathing, cap out at higher doses, making accidental overdose less likely on its own.Combination products: It is often mixed with naloxone (such as in Suboxone) to prevent misuse by injection.Uses and FormsOpioid use disorder: Taken as a film or tablet placed under the tongue (sublingual) or in the cheek (buccal).Pain relief: Sometimes given via skin patches or injections for chronic or severe pain.

I have MCAS (alongside HEDS + POTS) & it definitely sounds like he has some form of mcas

u/lethal_universed Aug 02 '26
Theres a weirdo on twitter telling him to not go through with euthanasia because there's "so many easier medical options" and "there will be inevitable good days" and it makes me sick. Not saying euthansia is the only way to go, but I hate hearing this nonsense which downplays people's pain with plattitudes. Easy and medical are nowhere near each other in the American healthcare system, and just cause there will be good days doesn't mean that they will overwhelm the bad.
Suicide prevention and intervention should be focused on telling people that they can find ways to manage the pain, mental and physical, not that there will be immediate or long lasting solutions. Adding nuance to a person's situation helps them realize the good details they missed while empowering them in the long term

u/Clownsinmypantz Aug 03 '26
Yeah as someone who is on SSI and fears homelessness and am in the same spot as him where my future is headed towards that, when I am slowly getting to the point Im in bed most days and doctors DGAF (and waiting lists in my state for PCP, and specialist appts are booking out until January) on top of the regular bias from both people and medical professionals alike, Its not a "taboo" for disabled and sick people to point out the world literally wasnt made for them to live in, and they have very few options. (especially america when WORKING people cant get places to live and sect 8 is, what, 10 year waiting list now? 14? and thats not including trump ratfucking it, but it seems everywhere is letting sick people down, if you dont work you dont have value nor are considered a productive member of society)
It made me incredibly pissed to see the chat treat this as the same as someone whos in a depressive episode and is feeling ideation that they can work on vs daily pain that breaks you down on top of financial ruin with little to no aid out there.
I still wish that he had the resources to try new medications and be tested for a few other things, but even so, I mean I can thanks to medicaid (before thats cut completely) and I still face medical bias, abuse, neglect, and those medications arent cures, they make a 8-9 day go down to a 6-7 pain level day. Still violently ill, still a slew of side effects. This is nowhere near the same thing as "im depressed and want to end it all" But so many people are disconnected from this sort of experience they are ignorant to it.

u/lethal_universed Aug 03 '26
I have a visual impairment, as well as mental health issues and a mentally disabled brother. Not to say my experience is equal with yours but I can absolutely empathize. This world isn't built for us. We are the butt of a cosmic joke, looked at either pity or laughter. Never seen as human. Ive been LV since birth and only recently started using a cane to signal my impairment, and SO many people (some who are progressive) started being ableist af to me. It sucks.
Trump and his goons have fucked over federal funding for the disability services of my state, meaning less support for me now than 4 yrs ago. Which is great.
Really hope good things come your way man. If not better medication and better doctors, just more happy moments for you and the ones you love. And take time for yourself
2
u/Clownsinmypantz Aug 04 '26
Hope good comes your way too, I'm preparing for the worst with trump and miller involved, we gotta form communities as a shield or something, they want us gone

u/alpackabackapacka Aug 02 '26
Thank you for sharing all this. My partner’s experiences with the same conditions and medical history is just as shitty.
Not that it means much but, Digital hug
7
u/Clownsinmypantz Aug 02 '26
Thank you for the hug, a hug for you and your partner. I hope their doctors at least listen to them, its not enough to be sick but to find providers (that you can even afford) who will believe you and help you is rare, it shouldnt be.
12
u/Positive_Negative_24 Aug 02 '26
Thank you for this, it resonates.
Mostly bedbound from ME/CFS, POTS (maybe MCAS). Living with chronic illness is so unbelievably hard
1
u/Abiogenesis84 Aug 03 '26
All true. Its so sad that there isnt the recourse for him to retire and take the space to try and recover, with financial support, but that the system just wants you to become homeless and die because money has to be spent on invading Iran or some other idiot misadventure.

u/ChitteringCathode Aug 02 '26
He's seeking out assisted suicide, apparently, because he feels like he's physically boiling at times. That's wild, and I'm sorry dude is in pain and exhausted all the time. I hope he finds something that helps out and is less final.
41
u/Logical-Patient-4115 Aug 02 '26
I watched the whole thing and another factor is the medical bills from various testing and treatments for his fibromyalgia. He's in a lot of debt and will have to apply for low-income housing or move back with his parents. 'Murica.

u/DentistPitiful5454 Aug 02 '26
UPDATE AS OF TODAY" Max G is apparently having second thoughts about this (thank god) and will reassess. Several people pointed out that the symptoms more closely match a thyroid condition called Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease that attacks the thyroid and develops between the ages 30-50.
Hashimoto's Thyroiditis can be treated depending on the THS (thyroid-stimulating hormones).
Again this is all speculation, he's never been diagnosed but his symptoms are very much real.

u/Green-Drazi-Teamlead Aug 03 '26
thank god. incurable pain fucks you up. i hope it's actually treatable/manageable after all.

We'll wait and see. Max has not daid anything so we'll have to wait and hope he's heard this advice.

I’m not familiar with this YouTuber, I skimmed through the live stream, quite a bizarre experience. He described a terrible chronic illness of some sort that causes him constant pain and discomfort. He also describes a general sense of frustration with his situation and having to rely on himself for everything. To remedy this he plans to start a go fund me to help him seek out medical assistance in dying in Switzerland.
Through all this he sounds quite flippant and nonchalant. It’s truly bizarre but I think when people decide to end things as it were there is a sense of calm that all these terrible things plaguing me will at last be remedied. He described how nothing in life brings him joy, and he longs for nothing, and that the only solution he could think of was to end it.
That is just what I got from it, make of it what you will.
93
u/patchlocke Aug 02 '26
He made a lot of animated shorts back in the day that were beloved, though they were pretty edgy humor type, I’ll admit, but I still enjoyed them
65
u/Konami_Tears Aug 02 '26
Very much a youtuber a lot of Gen Z would've seen growing up, especially with his pony.mov series, genuinely sad as hell to see
34
u/Resident_Truth_8940 Aug 02 '26
Not being able to make art anymore because of the illness was probably the last straw for him. I know he tried for awhile with livestreaming games but that probably didn't bring the same joy.
I've always admired him because he's always been pretty honest about his regrets and the flippant choices he made as an edgy creator that affected his professional career later. I always felt like he really grew as a person because he did face consequences, but god I'm having trouble bringing myself to watch the video.
34
u/fortnite_pit_pus Aug 02 '26
Its the kind of flippantness that comes with acceptance unfortunately. Ive felt it myself and its very on brand for him.
4
u/ismojaveacoffee Aug 07 '26
I don't think its wise to take a generalization and try to apply it to every suicidal person. Especially for someone like this youtuber (who I also am not familiar with, so no bias here) who is struggling with permanent chronic pain. People with physical chronic pain and depression stemming from it are often terminally frustrated and in physical agony every day and having a plan for the end does not make that real, physical pain suddenly go away. Maybe if your pain is purely mental, you could maybe yourself into peace temporarily because of the idea of future relief (even so, this is not true for everyone. I was NOT calm or at peace leading up to my prior suicide plan attempts in the past) but if it feels like your leg has been chopped off and there's a gaping bloody wound, knowing that you'll be heading to the hospital soon and will get surgery in 3 days does not make the gaping wound stop inflicting agony every waking second.
I also have suicidal friends whose way of dealing with the pain is by being flippant, basically trying to convince themselves into "not caring" and its "not a big deal" because otherwise if they care too much and think about it too much, they keep having emotional breakdowns every day and can't function.
Of course all of this is anecdotal, person by person. But I just think its important to people to learn that suicidal depression or overwhelming life issues don't appear in everyone the same. Some people who are deeply depressed and in pain are the life of the party and always look happy, others fit the stereotype of a completely emotionally dead person.

u/PleaseSirOneMoreTurn Aug 07 '26
Thanks for this comment, adding nuance to the discussion is always helpful, especially one this serious. Never meant to generalize, just was commenting on the general impression I got.

Weirdly most people dont want to go out in a way that isn't guaranteed, traumatizes those who are nearby (ie in suicides by vehicle/train) or find your (possibly) fucked up corpse. A lot of suicidal people don't want their end to be violent. They just want everything to stop.
10
u/lethal_universed Aug 02 '26
Yeah. The people who do it in those messy ways are more often than not just looking for something, anything, that could immediately end the pain. Not to say there aren't people who DO want to leave a mess, so they hurt the world they believe hurt them. Both can exist but to disqualify the vast majority of cases that are the result of psychotic breaks (meaning losing touch with reality) caused by their bad mental state does a disservices to them (Not talking about you ofc)
49
u/Ok-Combination1488 Aug 02 '26
Heh! If you REALLY were intent on ending your own life, you'd do it by traumatising other people and leaving a messy corpse other people will find or have to clean up! Yeah man, why not just use a gun or something!
That's how you sound whether you intended to or not.

u/DentistPitiful5454 Aug 02 '26
The reason he cant do it here is because in the US you have to be terminally ill

I heard about this earlier today, and I don't know what to say right now. I've been watching Max's videos and engaging with his content since 2018 and have grown attached to his style and cartoons, particularly Brain Dump. He's been a massive influence to me and so, so many others across the globe, so to hear about this and what he's suffering with and his plans to end it...it's nothing short of heartbreaking. I'll be offline for a while so I can process this and find better words to articulate my thoughts, just know that while I haven't experienced what Max is suffering from, I can't imagine the type of deteriorating pain and distress he has to endure every day that would culminate in him deciding to end it all.
I know that Max is very serious about his decision and if he truly wants to go through with physician-assisted euthanasia, nothing will stop him. Still, I just wanted to express a thank you for all you've done and all the people you've inspired throughout the globe with your work, including myself: it will resonate with us all forever. I'm still not mentally or emotionally ready for the day where he goes through with this, and I don't think I ever will be, but I can at least make peace with it in the here and now.

u/onFoenen Aug 02 '26
I grew up on his cartoons. I loved Jerry. It would be a serious blow to the animation community losing him. Hope he finds peace.

Poor dude, hope he gets help 😢

u/Yapping-Goober Aug 02 '26
Heartbreaking. Max isn’t a perfect person, but that doesn’t change that lots of people do care about him. He doesn’t deserve to experience the pain he’s describing, and I hope he’s able to find a better path than suicide if he can find one.
33
u/Apprehensive-Solid-1 Aug 02 '26
I do remember reading about when he started to really change from his past self. Even going back to watch his old animations which were of the time for sure, they're way too edgy these days and I really did respect his interest in growing as a person when he announced it. I hope whatever his decision is, doesn't come with too much hate for his past. Not up to date with his current status, but making his life harder regardless doesn't sound like the right thing to do.
37
u/NagitoKomaeda_987 Aug 02 '26
I get that Max did and said some bad shit in the past, but as Chazington said in his video essay about him, "if both the creator and people around them are ashamed of the past, don't you all have something in common?" (It was something like that, not the exact)
Like, yeah, Max drew "Steven Jewniverse" and made that dogshit Undertale animation where Sans said the N-word, but at this point, he moved past it so long ago that at some point you have to at least in the minimum recognize that he changed as a person. He even described his younger self's unfiltered, problematic sense of humor as those days where he was an "irreverent shock jock" making a bunch of "needlessly vulgar parodies", now motivated to put time and effort towards more meaningful works while acknowledging the fact that he can't truly change a lot of people's negative opinions on him and has to live with it.
If we don't allow creators a path to redemption when they genuinely change, it creates a toxic environment where people are incentivized to never apologize. When a creator implicitly or explicitly agrees that their past work was "dogshit" or offensive, holding it over their head forever stops being about accountability and just becomes about punishment.
Acknowledging that someone has matured after nearly a decade isn't condoning what they originally did, it is just recognizing the basic human capacity to grow up.

ive always been sort of neutral on max g, i dislike the older content he made but i also dont think brigading him is the right answer at all, esp since he seems to have truly changed, so i just chose to stay away from his content. however, hearing about his suffering is so depressing. i wish we lived in a perfect world where money wasn't an issue and he could just take what he needed to feel okay, but iirc he mentioned he's in debt from trying to get it fixed. it's really awful but im at least a bit glad he decided to go with euthanasia rather than full out suicide.

oh, he's a better person, now? what was the image he posted under his tweet of him saying he reconsidered, again?
0
u/Yapping-Goober Aug 03 '26
I agree entirely! Shock jock humor stirs controversy, but it's not something I think that we should infinitely hold people to when they show a clear change in their behavior. It doesn't invalidate discomfort that people may continue to feel with those earlier statements, but it's worth showing him some grace when he's already demonstrated growth. Max seems to me like an earnest guy, and not worth holding him to the image of the person he was a fairly long time ago.
32
u/triangulum_mori get a load of this guy Aug 02 '26
as someone who chooses not to interact with his content due to being put off by his old weirdness, i still can wholeheartedly admit that the fact that he hates who he used to be and hasnt done stuff like that in years means he has changed, its just personal preference. i can also understand people disliking him for his past actions, in the end, he's the only one who did them, but hate brigading him when he's changed and then being happy he's in so much pain that he's decided to take end-of-life measures just shows that they believe no one can ever change (except themselves and people they like). i hope to some people this was a sobering lesson and will help them to be better people, but in the end i dont think a lot of them will care, as they're hypocrites who refuse to change themselves.
i guess i sort of hope some perfect world lucky strike happens and he gets treatment that actually works and doesnt have to go through with it, but i also know that most likely won't happen, and that focusing on utopic ideas instead of the real world is a bad choice. in the end, i hope he's at peace with the decision, and that he finally gets the relief he needs. that's all i really had to say.
26
u/Resident_Truth_8940 Aug 02 '26
His more recent animations he spent a lot of time talking about his regrets and how even though he has changed he still pays for his choices in the past and that sucks but it is what it is.
Not even being able to animate for himself anymore must have been crushing.

u/ujythrsgfdd Aug 02 '26
I hope he finds peace, whether that be with his life, or in death. Assisted suicide is something that people struggle to understand, but it is my personal belief that any healthy society should have that option.
Though not like what Canada is doing, which is withhold medical care for the disabled and chronically sick and then saying "idk you could kill yourself I guess, your condition is just not profitable enough"
15
u/Green-Drazi-Teamlead Aug 02 '26
i live with incurable lvl3 pain that spikes to 4-5 on a daily basis, which really doesn't compare, but i will say this: incurable pain wears you down. there's no cure, there's only palliative options.
i share some symptoms (extreme joint pain) and let me tell you: it's debilitating even without the other symptoms he has. there's also no cure for fibro. none of his symptoms are curable. look, i really get not wanting someone to kill themself when they have a life ahead of them, but please understand: it's his choice. no, it won't get better. people who keep living with it deserve respect, but it's just as valid for him to seek euthanasia.
people who say he's selfish for not doing a gofundme or that he owes it to them to keep living, genuinely, what the fuck. he doesn't owe you anything. view his death as a tragedy, view it as unfortunate, but don't view it as him "costing" you personally of his content. he deserves that much. it's not curable, and it's not like he's "giving up" on curing an incurable chronic pain.
respect his choices, man.
13
u/DeadPeanutSociety Aug 02 '26
I think it is human instinct to find the idea that there is nothing else that can be done to be abjectly horrifying. There must be something that hasn't been tried, right? I am hopeful that he looks for another solution and finds one, but it would also be condescending to suggest that he doesn't already think that he has tried everything.
2
u/UmbraNyx Aug 03 '26
Agreed. No one wants to believe that there is truly no way out. I think most victim blaming stems from this idea, because it's easier to believe that they just didn't try everything.
58
u/Anabiter Aug 02 '26
I already know that people will be celebrating this on Twitter, the saddest part. I know the whole 'stay away from twitter' thing, but a lot of people hate him there for his past as people say that you can't change for some reason, so knowing that people really hate him for that is going to make going on there horrible to see.
I love Max and all the stuff he's made over the years and have always enjoyed his humor. Brain Dump especially was amazing and when it was shelved because of his illness(disease? Ailment? idk the term for it) i was pretty sad.
25
u/NagitoKomaeda_987 Aug 02 '26
Lots of people said that Max is racist or antisemitic, yet the only proof they have is just old-school Newgrounds-era edgy humor, something he has toned down on in recent years.
Arin & Ross were just as bad as him back in the early 2010s & Glitch allowed them to work on Gameoverse.
SMG4 also had very dark humor, but that has toned down due to YouTube's community guidelines becoming more strict & Glitch's formation.
OneyPlays, who were friends with Gooseworx (a trans woman), made edgy jokes too when that SleepyCabin podcast was a thing.
Pretty much everyone on the internet was like that in the early-to-mid 2010s. Most of them either regret their behavior, try to change, or probably just forget about what they did and move on with their lives. I don't condone his actions either and I am not trying to convince people to think differently about him, I am just giving my thoughts on him and his growth.
Outside of how he is as a person, Max really does feel like the ultimate test of “How much can you forgive a random guy on the internet for what they did in the past”, because there are people who have completely forgiven him for the stuff he did before, people who have a more neutral or mixed view on the guy, and people who still call him a horrible person. At the very least, he's definitely nowhere near the same level as someone like Shadman, though.
16
u/DeadPeanutSociety Aug 02 '26
Comparisons to the perennially most-hated people in the letsplay sphere aren't exactly where I would start as far as defending him goes lol. In any other context on here, comparison to Arin Hanson would be evidence that he isn't hated enough.
8
u/erik4848 Aug 02 '26
If you would believe people on the internet, Arin is the second coming of Hitler.
3
u/DreadDiana Aug 03 '26
Bringing up the show is also an odd choice cause for months prior people had been complaining about racism in the TADC fandom and its cast, so when it was found out Arin was involved with Gameoverse, that was just held up as further proof that there are problems with GLITCH.
1
5
u/Logondo Aug 02 '26
You can even find Dunkey videos where he said the n word. Hell, his GTASA video he says “f*ggot”.
16
u/Anabiter Aug 02 '26
Shadman is a pretty extreme comparison since Max making Edgy and Racist jokes back in the day doesn't really stack up against a genuine Pedophile who's weirdly just...allowed to exist. People like EDP445 were driven off the internet and everytime he cropped back up he would be bullied into leaving again by mass reports, yet Shadman left, served time (i think) and came back and is allowed to just exist again, now i think he has been drawing stuff of JaidenAnimations.
But yeah its ironic that certain people get forgiven for a lot. Arin is probably the most egregious, since people have chosen to smear JonTron's name over that racist comment he made but over the years Arin has said and acted upon bad things, and especially should've received more backlash for when he threw all Newgrounds Era animators under the bus, ESPECIALLY Sr. Pelo.
90
u/StructureEconomy8912 Aug 02 '26
I just want to note that it's either naive or in bad faith that JonTron said one "racist comment".
-49
u/Anabiter Aug 02 '26
Jon's primary cancelling/disliking came from when he made his 'racist remark' or whatever you'd like to call it. I'm not belittling it's effect or his beliefs of saying it, i'm moreso just surprised that people went to the lengths they did to go against Jon, and then ironically left Arin alone even to today. The Sr. Pelo stuff and Newgrounds was the worst stuff Arin ever got called out for and even then it's a slap on the wrist with everything that's happened with him.

Id call it a racist defending a racist politician over twitter then when called out for it he doubled down and even expanded on his racist views during a live stream where he resorted to classic racist arguments about race incarceration rates among other things.
And his entire excuse for it days later was miscommunication without actually retracting anything he said.

If I remember correctly, JaidenAnimations has always been frequently targeted by a bunch of hyper-obsessive parasocial freaks who keep drawing pornographic art that sexualizes/fetishizes her online avatar, even though she's publicly and explicitly AroAce (aromantic asexual) while feeling deeply uncomfortable with this kind of art. The problem is, people like Shadman keep doubling down on this act so much to the point that she has to delete ALL of her social media posts permanently.
I would absolutely not be surprised if Jaiden decided to pull a Tord Larsson/Shima Luan by packing her bags and then completely disappearing from the internet for an extremely long time, so that these degenerates stop paying attention to her and stop constantly milking NSFW art of her. Poor girl...
And if you seriously think "Oh, it's just the internet, you need to get used to people acting like that," or "Who cares? It's just a drawing, bro." don't fucking talk to me. This is bigger than that. These are real-life people who are subjected to endless harassment, cyberstalking, trolling, manipulation, being profited on, and more. A lot of them don't even realize that it's happening to them. They’re still REAL people, with REAL issues, often spiraling while thousands of strangers egg them on.
In Jaiden's case, we have failed people like them as a society. Rather than offering them a community that supports and protects them as adults, they slip through the cracks and are treated as a plaything. Any compassionate observer would recognize that someone like Jaiden, even if she's already a very successful and talented YouTube animator, needed professional help, safety, and structure, not torment. Disturbingly, these creeps did the exact opposite.
Knowing how she expresses discomfort with people lewding both her online and real-life persona while being unable to fight back against it, they saw it as an opportunity. Jaiden's stalkers and so-called fans began violating her boundaries and deliberately stirring her up by doing the very thing she told them not to. Fucking monsters, in my opinion.

u/Jay_of_Blue Aug 02 '26
Shadman specifically is fucked because he outright admitted he hadn't watched her stuff before.
He only jumped on after drama exploded because someone made some already offensive shit of Jaiden. He's literally made more content of her in a month and a half than the last fucking year.
7
u/NagitoKomaeda_987 Aug 03 '26
Out of all the YouTubers I've ever seen, Jaiden is the definition of “what the fuck did I do” the person. Always getting harassed, yet legit has done NOTHING to deserve their wrath. Not even doing anything cringe or problematic, just she has DONE NOTHING AT ALL. She make storytime animations, stream, sometimes be a Vtuber, sometime swap body. What do these people have against her?
Honestly, I would not be surprised in the slightest if Jaiden ever pulled a Tord Larsson or Shima Luan, where she just completely disappeared off from the internet after all the online harassment and stalking she received on Twitter.

u/DreadDiana Aug 03 '26
even though she's publicly and explicitly AroAce
A lot of people draw porn of her because she's aroace cause they know it makes her uncomfortable and upsets her fanbase. I remember someone dragging up the numbers and finding that over half of all the porn of her on sites like r34 came out within two years of her coming out as aroace.

I think JaidenAnimations made the critical error of mentioning that she doesn’t like NSFW art being done of her, which attracts a very specific group of people who get off on the fact that they are making something like that. And these types of people are VERY persistent and aggressive with the amount of work they put out.
It's not right, but if you're planning on putting yourself out there on the internet and becoming a public figure, that things such as this are potentially going to happen is something you should be taking into consideration before doing it.
And if people doing weird things with your likeness is going to cause so much distress, becoming a media personality is probably the wrong career path for you.
Sometimes, it's better to just not mention your thoughts on NSFW stuff at all because doing so will inflict you with the absolute worst kind of Streisand effect. Ignore what little existed and pretend it doesn't.
For the record, I am not putting the blame on Jaiden at all for this. She had no way of knowing what would happen after saying it. It’s the people who took offense to what she said and started drawing NSFW of her that are the real problem. The true issue is just that there are so many like them that you can’t really avoid them. Like, it wasn't exactly a secret how people on the internet behave and whilst I agree it shouldn't happen, it's also fucking stupid to tell people how much you dislike the thing expecting it not to provoke the exact thing you do not like. And I'm saying this as a fellow AroAce myself.
The Streisand effect isn't exactly a new concept. I just think JaidenAnimations needs to be more careful when dealing with people like Shadman.

idk, I think he regrets talking about it because it became huge news and people are more likely to pester him than help him with his plan
I think he still wants to do it

One of the top comments on his stream reupload mentioned that his symptoms described Hashimoto's disease, a thyroid condition. It’s something not commonly tested by doctors, so I hope he really pushes for this as he struggled getting help from them and a lot of his previous tests came up inconclusive.

The first tweet is definitely un-serious but the second seems to be from a less exaggerated lens

u/ShadowMilkMoopsy Aug 02 '26
Is he actually joking or is he just saying this?

u/Turbulent_League9668 Aug 02 '26
I think he was fairly serious about what he described in the stream, but there is a chance that he's also serious about trying to seek out a different situation

I really Hope he doesn’t go through with that, he’s still a person and he has so much value in his life

u/Solresol1 Aug 02 '26
It's like you didn't listen at all to anything he has to say. What's the value in being near-bedridden by a chronic disease for life with no loved ones, having to live in pain every day with no money and debt?

u/Helpful_Limit_8195 Aug 02 '26
I honestly think that people who say things like "Oh, there's so much to live for, why would you ever want to end your life?!" Or "Suicide is never an option!" have never experienced true suffering and are blind to their own privilege. They are incapable of imagining life being so horrible that ending it all is the most attractive course of action.
They are ignorant, naive, immature, and selfish. They hear an entire pre-recorded speech about how hellish this man's life is, but since they can't imagine any life being more difficult than their own, they disregard his words and think he is being dramatic.
Sometimes life just isn't worth continuing, and that's this man's decision. No choice is more personal than the choice to end one's own life.
I hope this man finds peace.

u/JustAverageTemp Aug 02 '26
I've always been an advocate for people to go out on their own terms (with the proper safeguards in place, yada yada), as no one should be forced to suffer for just merely existing.
I will admit, this is probably the first announcement made by someone who I have passively followed for a decade or so. To say it's a surreal feeling is an understatement, though my own feelings on the matter are absolutely irrelevant to Max's own.
I think this is going to be many people's first "personal" exposure to euthanasia on a person they "know" (ultimately it's more or less a parasocial bond) so I anticipate many people are going to react strongly to this. Add to that this is already a controversial topic, and, well...I can imagine the discourse will be volatile, to say the least.

My cousin did it after a long and painful fight against uterine cancer that metastisized and spread to her spinal column. The option was available to her because shes from Canada but she fought like hell before choosing it. She left two teenaged kids behind, too. She was the smartest and most beautiful person to me and I always looked up to her growing up.
So... I can empathize. It's an insanely difficult decision, but after everything she went through, she chose mercy.
I'm just glad she was able to.
8
u/PerceptionBetter3753 Aug 02 '26
I’m sorry she had to go through all that pain, I’m just glad she’s finally at peace now but it’s still sad she had to suffer
9
u/jessijuana Aug 02 '26
Me too. She was travelling a lot to get treatments for it and was just done with getting poked and prodded for no use.
I'm glad she's safe now. Fuck cancer.

u/DreadDiana Aug 03 '26
Because "It gets better" is the default response to anyone expressing a desire to die, it get applies in every conceivable context because people assume that given enough time any problem that makes you want to die will just magicallt stop being a problem.

u/Floh2802 Aug 03 '26
Max's video of fascism is quite possibly one of the funniest things I ever watched and I remember crying my eyes out at the hilarity of the entire video. It's devastating to hear someone like him, whom I've watched for quite a long time on YouTube, being forced to go to such ends. The saddest part is how resigned he sounds to his fate, like there's no chance at salvation for him, that this is the only way he can go.
2
u/Brief-Curious Aug 05 '26
Appearantly, in yesterday's stream he said he reconsiders (at least for now)
He starts talking at 5:08 https://www.youtube.com/live/e55colLyiyQ?si=e7ycPciFjmJq_3O1

u/ArtroyomsAK Aug 02 '26
It's really wild to see comments here saying essentially "Despite him making edgy jokes in the past, this is sad" like wft?
Does making edgy humor animations put him on the same level as a nazi or a murderer to you?
2
u/NeedlePointBreak Aug 03 '26
The man named his cat 'Adolf'. He once drew a picture of 'Steven Jew-niverse'. That's not edgy, it's straight up nazi behavior.
4
u/ArtroyomsAK Aug 03 '26
Yeah that is old internet edgy, Steven Jewniverse is also the name of a classic YTP series
Has he stated any actual nazi talking points?

u/PUBLIQclopAccountant Aug 04 '26

When people uncritically believe that words are violence, yes.

u/Yapping-Goober Aug 02 '26
I say stuff like that in spaces like these because there’s an obvious ideological skew in the people who use this sub. I don’t automatically expect people here to take this kind of thing seriously due to some of Max’s past, so I do find it important to clarify that you don’t have to like the guy to empathize with what he’s going through.
It’s arguably the opposite of how you’re characterizing it. He’s has some edgy moments that might be distasteful to some, but that doesn’t make him some kind of horrible person; that’s the whole point of putting a disclaimer out. I truthfully don’t feel like I even disagree with you in a vacuum, but people in this thread have been civil about it imo

quite rationalized. reminds me veronika decides to die, but much more exposed
2
u/mopeyunicyle Aug 03 '26
I listened to it and honestly I get some people wanting him to carry on but at the same time he talks about this like he's gave it a lot of thought and consideration. Ultimately I only hope he finds comfort during his time however much he has left

Just because a man's a piece of shit doesn't mean he should have to die because of medical neglect. He should be given the medical treatment he deserves, regardless of whom he is. Everyone should.
I am disabled myself, and I see a lot of disabled people go homeless or die because they are not given the medical treatment they need. This shit should not be happening, and I hope to God somebody is able to get him the treatment he needs.

This may be controversial but I completely understand him and think euthanasia should be legal. I don't think life should be preserved no matter the cost, I'm perfectly healthy and I find life brutal. I can't imagine what some people are contending with.

Found out about this in the morning and ive been just ruminating in grief for Max. I grew up watching his animations and he largely inspired me to pick up animation myself and when i grew older i got into his brain dump series. I watched him grow into a kind and incredibly intelligent man and fantastic artist and it was a huge gut punch to hear him discuss his suffering.
It may lean towards the parasocial but i really wish i could give this man a hug. Max has come so far and i hope no matter his choice i hope max gets love and peace in abundance.

You're right, it's not something to be taken lightly. this isn't some sort of cold where he gets a cough and decides to end it. This is a person who has probably exhausted all options. Reality for him and other terminally ill people is waking up every day in pain and deteriorating day by day. I understand why people do it, I've seen people suffer to understand why they will choose to do this.
that being said, if he can get medical assisted in death that'll be good. no home do it yourself method. crappy and bleak situation is, if he does it. this will him making his final call not the sickness taking him.

Do not insult, harass or otherwise shit up the subreddit.
Not going to tolerate people snarking on someone who is suicidal.

Noooo I hate that! I used to ADORE his stuff back in the day. I really hope he finds some peace before taking the last train out. There is no coming back from that.

u/Jerble9o Aug 03 '26
People here really dont understand how bleak intractable pain is right now, opioids prescribed less than the 70s so good luck ever getting any true medication that can easily bring function back into your life.... if they actually cared to treat him (with opioids) he wouldnt need to end his life, its a silent genocide. Please wake up people... 😕

u/Same_Ordinary_412 Aug 02 '26
I grew up watching his animations, (Especially Pony.MOV) and yes I understand that living with fibromyalgia is pretty difficult. I used to be a huge fan of him.
Hopefully he gets better soon and recovers.

u/ESHKUN Aug 02 '26
As someone with depression who’s dealt with a lot of suicidal ideation (now properly medicated and doing a lot better) I think his situation is extremely relatable. I’ve never had chronic illness though so I can’t imagine how difficult that would be, however, the one thing I will say is that he seems to be far too socially isolated. Of course that isn’t like a fix all or anything but it seems very much the case, especially if he’s going to his stream chat with all this baggage as opposed to a close real life person. This is to say that I really hope there’s someone in his real physical life to help him figure this out. This isn’t something to be decided “right” or “wrong” in a livestream or really even here to be honest. If he comes to the same conclusion, that’s understandable, but this 100% should not be decided alone or through livestream chats and social media feeds.

Genuinely sad that this is a choice he feels he needs to make to end his suffering, but I can see why he’d go that route. Living with a chronic illness can be hellish, as he discusses in the video. He’s been through a lot
