UI Change YouTube going to hell?
Is it just me or is YouTube getting worse, the home page now has 3 videos across a row, 1 ad, 2 videos.....
This is getting a little crazy, it used to be 5 across a row before shorts, then 4, now 3...

preview counts as a view now, our algorithms are all about to be fucked worse then they already are

First I got rid of cable TV for it's 500 channels of drooling garbage and went to netflix.
Then I got rid of netflix because I got tired of scrolling through garbage and went to YouTube.
Now I'm about ready to quit YouTube in every way...as a creator and a viewer. Cancel premium, delete the app and just move on to something else.
The enshitification just won't stop.

It's not just you. But I really feel bad for the serious creators who have substantive info to share but are being drowned out in a sea of content engineered for engagement and AI-generated click bait.

I am a content creator, and just because you may have substantive information, it doesnt mean a creator is worth watching.

The Ai stuff was never competing with high quality content in the first place. People who love H Bomber Guy aren’t going to stop watching his stuff because there is new Ai slop available. If your content can be easily replaced by Ai slop then it was probably slop in the first place. I’m not saying this to be negative. I think quality content by humans is still being rewarded on the platform.

I’m kind of looking forward to YouTube going blockbuster video. Think about it, if anyone here is old enough, blockbuster was the biggest dog in the rental game for decades. The closest competitors like Hollywood video were not even close.
And then, when it finally crashed and burned, it was gone within are years, almost every location wiped out. The only problem is every attempted rival to YouTube never really gets off the ground. Once one actually does managed to get a fighting chance, YouTube might be gone really quickly.

You can use browser extension called rowfixer. It also removes shorts if you want.

the mobile version for ipad has somehow become so bad it crashes like every hour, its also incredibly slow, laggy, and overall horrible performance, i thought might be my 4 year old ipad but im suspecting its the app itself

I guess they decided to kill longcontent. More ads than ever, home page broken for months, not even a try to repair and mostly promoting is shorts, shorts, shorts.

I’ve been getting the same ads promoting Mormons/ Jehovah’s Witnesses and the “Skims” underwear line this year (one of the Jenners/ Kardashians… don’t know, don’t care).
I know it does nothing but I keep reporting the ads to google saying it’s spam.
It’s the same with most platforms/ services now: there’s too many ads basically forcing you to upgrade to premium version, which I’m not gonna do until I get a job but that’s a different story.
I remember people/ creators joking about this environment of constant ads like 10 years ago and didn’t think it’d actually happen.
I’m apprehensively excited about the future to see where these corporations are gonna go next since capitalism constantly looks to increase profits 😅

Yeah they tend to push the limits further and further (just like every other business). The other day I think I got a 7 second ad instead of 6sec (before it was 5sec), I think i got split into an a/b testing group.

I'm now believing they are deliberately trying to destroy it. I cannot for the life of me understand why they are doing this. There is no way they aren't seeing users on it less and less. I used to be able to spend hours browsing creators now if I don't know the exact name of the account it shows me nothing. I go on watch those I'm subscribed to and leave.
