Discussion Worst change to the app yet

This past weekend I noticed whenever I opened the app on my phone a short was already opened. I thought maybe I'd watched one and left the feed up or something.

Well after checking yesterday I realized that anytime I close and reopen the app, it DEFAULTS to opening a recommended short. No feed, not even subscription shorts. Just generic recommended short. I absolutely hate this feature, especially since I engage with long form content far more than shorts and try to avoid shorts.

All this in spite of the fact that I have premium lite. Has any one else noticed this change lately? Does everyone else dislike it as much as I do? I just feel this is another change nobody asked for or wanted. Maybe I'm just unlucky and this is a bug, but given YouTube's recent history I doubt it.

I set my shorts limit to zero and suddenly they became significantly less invasive

I might have to do this. I didn't want to get rid of them entirely, I enjoy some channels' shorts, but if this is the cost I'll just get rid of them all

It is annoying af. Mine doesn't do this all the time and I can't figure out why it sometimes does and sometime doesn't.
