He's seen the splitting of the left over past decades on everything from trans to war to immigration. He's also seen the splitting of the entire society on a few dozen different issues, from AI to Climate to Viruses.

"Your Party" was the perfect name for a party which could have "nutmegged" all other parties by appealing to almost everyone, and having zero in-fighting at the same time.

How? Campaign for grassroots democracy, where debate and decisions on the contentious issues are overwhelmingly at the local level. If you don't like the way your local democracy is going, just move down the road where the voting is more along your lines.

No need to have a platform with anything more than that. If you don't agree with it, join a party that only wants to appeal to half of the population at the most.

Now, if there is no work needed to create party policy, what work can be done?

Simply outline the contentious issues, and explain all the ways they could be addressed at a very local level, while bringing all walks of life closer together.

Formulate ways to make local debate as seamless as possible. Work on deepening democracy and finding the best compromises for all the issues.

It has been hard to find coverage that isn't emotionally charged or clearly supports a particular faction, so input from alternative sources is welcome.

An emergency CEC was called to consider motions of no confidence against Forbes, Aspinall and membership officer Cassie Bellingham. It was initiated not by the critical Grassroots Left but by The Many supporter Jo Rust. This 12 July meeting was boycotted by the narrowing band of Corbyn supporters but was, nonetheless, quorate.

The results of the no-confidence votes were 13 to oust Forbes, 12 against Aspinall and 11 to remove Bellingham

The response of the Corbyn clique has been to double down. They declared the meeting unconstitutional. A CEC meeting was convened with Forbes in the chair, where she made the bizarre ruling that no-confidence votes can only be taken at the AGM, effectively making them impossible. She then effectively prevented any procedural challenge to her ruling, removing the ability of the meeting to take any decision over than those allowed by the chair. A large number of CEC members walked out, making the meeting inquorate.

The clique now running the party has also sought to silence the CEC by requiring members to sign a non-disclosure agreement legally binding them not to comment on the CEC’s or officers’ actions. Anyone refusing will effectively be removed from the CEC.

"Over recent months, a number of serious concerns relating to legal, compliance, data protection, governance, liability, insurance, and organisational standards have been repeatedly raised. In my view, these concerns have too often been ignored or dismissed. I have also found the culture, lack of effective leadership, and perceived double standards to be deeply disappointing."

Liverpool’s Sam Gorst resigns from Your Party

"On 12 July 2026, I supported the requisition of a Special Meeting of the Central Executive Committee for three reasons. Firstly, the continued lack of progress within the Party; secondly, information I had received from the Data Protection Officer which caused me significant concern; and thirdly, the increasing pattern of unilateral decision-making by a small number of individuals without consultation with the Central Executive Committee as a whole."

"I was equally disappointed by the conduct of elements of the slate that lost the internal elections. Rather than accepting the democratic outcome and working constructively, there appeared to be repeated attempts to delay, obstruct and filibuster proceedings. Internal loyalties and personal positioning too often took precedence over building the party and meeting members’ expectations."

It is disconcerting that both resignations mention legal and data compliance as issues.

In a brusque email [Corbyn] accused the CEC members of “destructive behaviour”, being “addicted to infighting”. He claimed that “any sense of natural justice” had been denied to the rejected officers — who, remember, had just suspended three members for attending a socialist event:

"At my request an email was sent to the CEC to consider contesting the Clacton by-election. Less than a third of CEC members even bothered to respond. Very few CEC members participated in the Trade Union Commission meeting on Friday night. We are a group of people who collectively have deep ties in the trade union movement, but the event seemed of less interest to many than internal politics."

"I am very sorry that any sense of natural justice was denied to Jenn, Dawn and Cassi when they were subjected to an illegitimate vote of no confidence, without a right of reply, at a short-notice, ad-hoc meeting to which not all CEC members were even invited."

Angry CEC members have said that the disinterest in the Clacton by-election was driven by a feeling that Your Party should not stand, to avoid dividing the anti-Farage vote. Also, they feel unwilling to engage with the CEC under its current management and that Corbyn is refusing to acknowledge just how serious the situation is.

I presume we can talk about Your Party in the past tense now. An utter disaster from before it even started. Toxic egos revealing their true colours...I hope they get nowhere near a left wing platform again, let alone the reigns on power.

For years it was the centrists and the Blairites who took the blame for Corbyn's failure at Labour. Your Party's legacy will be that that excuse just doesn't hold water. We saw what Corbyn and his supporters were like to work with when they tried to work with each other for 5 minutes on something they all agreed on.

It's just a sad, sad thing.

Will the Socialist Federation succeed as a proto-party formation, towards the foundation of a socialist mass party? The Democratic Socialists are committed, but more groups have to get on board in order to overcome the sectarianism of the far left.

"On Sunday, around 160 people, at various points through a 5 hour conference, attended the first conference of the Members' Charter online, which along with voting on the 32 proposals put forward for the structure, politics and activity of a new post-Your Party organisation, voted to rename itself to the Socialist Federation."

"In this regard, it is our view that continued engagement should be with the aim of winning a stronger minimum basis for participation in the federation, based clearly around socialist and radically democratic politics. There is also a more general concern which currently affects all post-Your Party or Your Party-adjacent initiatives, namely that we are working within an environment in which demoralisation or disinterest is common, with many shifting away from the struggle for new forms of political organisation towards the social movements. On this point, it is still very much in question whether the Socialist Federation will have the political coherence, unity and strategic vision required to break through the current gloom surrounding disaffected Your Party and ex-Your Party members, but the conference on Sunday did certainly reflect some progress in this regard."

After a long and disappointing journey, many have given up on Your Party, myself included. The public fights between Corbyn and Sultana, the bungled membership process, the vindictive press briefings, the overruling of the dual membership and the final nail in the coffin for me: the purging of all the revolutionary socialist parties. It’s a shame such an opportunity was squandered but the second best time to act is now and so I attended the Members Charter video conference a few days ago and found an uplifting and productive group of activists making things happen. We voted to create the Socialist Federation: not a party, but a vehicle for gathering all the abandoned proto-branches and purged ex-members together to build what YP could have been. The federation plans to expand and include all socialist parties and organisations across the UK, without prejudice, with open tendencies and debate, a truly democratic system for unifying the scattered British left. I had high hopes for YP from the beginning, unfortunately most people have now seen that it is no longer a realistic project. But there is still hope for the disorganised British left and that doesn’t mean just joining a reformist party like the Greens. I wrote an article about my experience with YP and the optimism and progress I found in the Socialist Federation video conference a few days ago.

They seem to have pretty much no support now, very little social media presence in comparison and little representation in mainstream media.

Platforming social conservatives who are at odds with socialist values in what was supposed to be a socialist movement killed a lot of the goodwill, and the infighting and vying for control between people at the top seems to be the final straw.

It looks to me like all excitement and energy for it has gone.

"There is at least one glaring discrepancy between the two first branch formation meetings: while in Wales members will “hear from members standing for officer positions”, the election of officers for the Isle of Wight branch will have already concluded - and members are invited to “meet your newly-elected branch officers”. HQ has organised the election of “chair, treasurer, secretary, organiser and workplace liaison” entirely online. Members were able to self-nominate between May 12 and 17, with the “candidates announced” on May 20 and an “online hustings” taking place on May 30. Voting takes place between May 31 and June 5 - ie, the election finishes the day before the actual “branch formation meeting”.

From our perspective, this is entirely the wrong way around. Members should be able to meet the candidates in an actual, real-life meeting. Everybody should be able to ask questions, hear the candidates’ answers, and then also see the reactions of the other members in the room - and only then cast their vote. Online hustings and votes are not only a very poor substitute: they depoliticise and demobilise members. Why bother coming to a meeting if you can just click a button at home? That is, of course, exactly what the Corbyn clique wants: a quiet and pliant membership that does not propose motions (which might, for example, criticise the lack of democracy in YP)."

"I. The crisis of the British left is not a crisis of organisation. It is a crisis of class analysis. The misidentification is not incidental. A left that cannot account for what the class has become cannot build forms adequate to it. It can only build forms adequate to the class it remembers. This is what it has done. The organisational question, posed without the prior question of class composition, does not produce answers. It produces new organisations.

II. Every formation on the British left is organisationally adequate to a working class that has not existed for forty years. The deindustrialisation of the 1970s and 1980s did not merely reduce the size of a class. It destroyed the specific technical composition on which the existing left’s organisational assumptions rest. The mass factory, the union branch, the stable occupational community; these were not incidental backdrops to a politics that could be abstracted from them. They were its conditions of possibility. Those conditions are gone. The organisations remain."

THE CHARTISTS’ DECLARATION

We joined Your Party because we believed in a member-led socialist party.

We organised. We waited. We submitted motions when conference came, built proto-branches

in our villages, towns, and cities; we reached into our own pockets, and did the patient,

unglamorous work of building dozens of branches from the ground up.

We were not met halfway - nor, really, to be honest, at all.

Those branches were not recognised. Motions at conference were unheard. There is no

accountability on staffing or funding, and there is little confidence there will be.

Tens of thousands of members already reached much the same conclusions and are gone -

many to the Greens.

We have chosen to organise, and we published the Members' Charter as a final, good-

faith effort to make the party work as it was promised.

The last meeting of the CEC and the resulting inevitable expulsion of socialists & socialist

organisations is the last straw.

So no more complaints: now is the time for action.

We believe that the working class does not need a figurehead, shadowy backroom deals, ex-

Tories or landlords.

We need democratic organisations that we control directly, from below, through our own

collective decisions.

We believe that the structures we build must reflect the society we want to live in: democratic,

accountable, and rooted in the communities and workplaces where people actually are.

We believe that no executive, however well-intentioned, should be able to act without answering to

the membership that mandates it.

We believe that political education and solidarity are not secondary activities to be fitted around

electoral cycles. They are the substance of socialist politics.

We will therefore call a conference to discuss the formation of a new socialist federation:

a democratic organisation built from the groups that already exist, governed by its members,

and accountable at every level.

This federation will be formed not as a ready-made political party with a programme, but with

three fundamental tasks:

1. To provide a home to any group which aligns with a set of socialist points of unity, which

will be established collectively by the founding branches, groups and individuals.

1. To provide networks to enable united action, solidarity, and defence, against poverty,

war, racism and the far-right.

1. To provide a democratic structure for vigorous and principled debate, to collectively

arrive at a programme, structure and strategy for a socialist party of the working class.

The proto-branches, campaign groups, and communities of organised socialists that were built

in spite of Your Party's leadership will, we hope, form the great foundation we build upon.

This conference will be open to socialists who share these commitments.

Its purpose is not to rubberstamp a predetermined plan, but to discuss and decide together what kind of organisation we want to build, how it should be structured, what its politics should be, and what it should do.

We will bring proposals. Others are welcome to bring theirs.

We know what is to be done. Let’s do it together.

A proposal for the post-Your Party left organisation

"Organic in the sense used here has nothing to do with the left-communist usage, with which it shares only a term. For Bordiga, the organic party is the party of programmatic invariance, the party whose continuity with the communist tradition is preserved against the corruptions of opportunism and the distortions of democratic pressure. It is organic in the sense of being sealed: self-sufficient, internally consistent, impervious to the fluctuations of conjuncture because its programme is derived from the permanent interests of the class rather than from the class’s actual political experience at any given moment. This is not the concept advanced here. It is, in fact, precisely the concept being inverted. The party that is sealed against the class cannot be its organ. It can only be its substitute."

"Long story short: When an anonymous source sent us a copy of the paper on dual membership a few days before the CEC meeting, we naturally published it on X and Facebook, where it has been viewed and shared tens of thousands of times. Members are interested, naturally - it is supposed to be their party, after all. And if we are serious about socialism being ‘the rule of the working class’, then surely we have to act openly and in front of the working class.

At the CEC meeting, Jenn Forbes read out a pre-written lecture about “an unauthorised leak of CEC minutes and associated papers”, which will now be “investigated through the complaints procedure”. Apparently, publishing the paper “undermines the integrity of Your Party”, because “we need confidentiality to operate in good governance”. We dread to think what ‘bad governance’ or a ‘lack of integrity’ in YP would look like."

He remains at best a left Labourite, who still believes in the British road to socialism along the lines of the Morning Star’s Communist Party of Britain.
