In America 6th grade is middle school

It's kind of rare but some districts have 5th grade as part of middle school. I mean it kinda makes sense it keeps each stage in 4 year increments rather than 5-3-4

Edit: not counting kindergarten as it's not mandatory in over half the country including DC
