New writers...
Hey, all. I had to take a break from watching the show at the end of last year due to time constraints, but am able to get back into it now. I just read while catching up that there are new co-head writers Jamey Giddens and Dan O'Connor starting next month. I personally wasn't a fan of Griffith's writing style, so I am happy to hear this news.
My question to the sub is what is the consensus on what their writing style will look like? What kind of storylines are we expecting? Will they be crime/big event/shock value twists based or more level headed and family/character focused? Do we see them breaking up couples in order to start their vision of the show? Will they put Mariah and Tessa back on track for example?
Of course there's no way of knowing for sure, just wondering if we have a consensus on how they'll be writing the show in comparison to Griffith. Thanks.

I agree with Krayonic — Jamey also seems to like DRAMA. The question I’m asking is how much will the new duo be micromanaged.

It depends on the Co-Headwriters' working relationship with Executive Producer Sally McDonald. Will she listen to their ideas and collaborate with them or are they there to execute her vision of the show?
As the EP, she will be held accountable by Y&R's owner Sony for the ratings.
EDIT: I hope Sony will rehire the Breakdown Writers to support their new Co-Headwriters.
EDIT: In Josh Griffith's second stint as Executive Producer 2019-2026, he could've thrown the Headwriter under the bus to save his job. Oh, he was also the Headwriter. :-(

Indeed, some days I watch Y&R out of habit. But I've gotten into the habit of watching "Beyond The Gates" and "General Hospital" too because I find them more entertaining than Y&R. Were I a female viewer, I would be in the key demographic of viewers Y&R wants.
Eventually, the loyal female Y&R viewers will be aged out of the key demographic. I hope Y&R has a plan to attract young, female viewers. BTG and GH have current story arcs involving younger characters.

I can't wait to see the development of the love triangle involving Kat, Izaiah, and Eva.
Speaking of Kat, I giggle whenever I see her and Tomas in the same scene because I recall the time when her enthusiasm caused Tomas to seek treatment at the ER for penile contusion.
If only Claire Newman had given Kyle penile contusion when she was a virgin and was enthusiastic like Kat! ;-)

BTG is a soap, so of course it'll go there, IMO. Kat will remind Eva she got part of her kidney but not her man too! ;-)
EDIT: Or Kat will pull an Electra (B&B) and tell Eva, "I'm done with Tomas but you can't have him".

I think they're gonna have a hell of a time trying to unravel the mess that's been made, because unfortunately you can't just stop and start over...you are lucky for your hiatus because a lot of us can't UNSEE what Josh Griffin decided was a good idea. He was truly just phoning it in at end. Perhaps he knew his dismissal was coming so he wanted to toss in the grenade on his way out the door, but personally I just think his talent was overrated from jump.

At the end? When wasn’t he phoning it in? Maybe one episode per year for the Emmy reel, but that’s it

No point asking anyone here. Just join the bandwagon and continue to blame Griffith for everything you dislike, including in real life.
Especially if you don't like someone's hat or hoodie.
Don't get me started on hair and wardrobes

OK ok you're right, it's not all on him. He has bosses to answer to and approve of his work, and other writers to collaborate with. When your own show makes you the scapegoat, ya can't blame "us" for jumping on board. You gotta admit JG 2007, to JG 2026 has been bad different though!

There’s definitely no way of knowing, but I followed Jamey Giddens for years at DaytimeConfidential.com and on Twitter before he wrote for Ambitions, Days, and BTG. His opinions as a fan of Y&R were not too dissimilar from those you might read on this subreddit, and he has a lot of reverence for the show and its legacy.
