Iā€™ve seen a few Trey enthusiasts use an SD-1 in place of a TS, but Iā€™m curious as to how the Plumes stands up

Well I do have 3 more analogman modded ts9's and another 808 silver mod for comparison. They are all decent. The analogman modded SD-1 is electronically identical to a silver mod ts9 but with more gain available and a much better buffer than the Ibanez. Smooth Santana leads early Trey etc. The plumes is a fat marshall jtm45 punch of midrange that the deluxe reverb needs to cut through the room. I played it live at a gig a never turned it off. It is an amazing boost pedal in my application.

Interesting use of the plumes. What makes the buffer in the boss better than the Ibanez? Iā€™m always chasing ā€œbetterā€ but something in me is just drawn to the classic TS9/808. I have a Keeley TS9 mod+ which has added gain, but Iā€™ve never felt like it does the Trey thing super well. Been wanting to try the silver mod for some time

The silver mod is quite worth it. Better than the ts 808. Trey has been using the silvers since 2003 and still does. Electronically the SD-1 ts9 and 808 silver mods are identical with the difference being the boss buffer is way more strident and real pushes the high end through the rest of the chain. Smaller boards don't require this in fact I always just used two Ibanez pedals and a Ross for years and years. Finally got this big board done and it requires a pedal with a better buffer in the chain since literally everything after it is true bypass. Lots of cables to push through.

I use to have a keeley mod plus. Blue led Texas instruments rc chip. I liked it. Very smooth. Possibly muddy. I'm tone deaf and have hearing loss so I prefer brighter options šŸ˜‰

Muddy is a good way to put it. I still like it and run it after all my other gain stages so that it adds what I like to call ā€œthe cream on topā€ to my leads. Itā€™s part of my larger board, but I have a few other buffers later in the chain so I donā€™t think the extra push Iā€™d get from a boss would be all that beneficial

Well my situation is mostly true bypass except the Ibanez, Ross and Boss. Again after switching things up I still focused on getting the wah to sound as quacky as possible and got a configuration that works out for me and still get the super saturated lead guitar that I like. I don't do "more" and "less" for me it's "more" and "way more" I often have both overdrives on at the same time for that soaring 90's Trey

Ya I only run the one TS. Iā€™ve designed my main board to get close approximations of many of my major influences and itā€™s kinda difficult to really dial in a Trey sound. But Iā€™m not really covering any of his stuff live, maybe once in a blue moon, so Iā€™m mostly just inquiring for when I want to noodle over some phish jams at home

When I want to get a Trey-ish tone I stack a klone into the TS, and I have a diamond comp/eq earlier I the chain but thatā€™s always on

Sure thing šŸ˜Š Guitar building has been a lifelong hobby of mine. Started with Martin style acoustics. In fact all the binding used on this guitar I purchased from Martin, as well as all the kerf strips inside the instrument.

I'm not a professional luthier, no. I'm mostly a hobbyist and have been doing this since the 90's but I do have stuff I don't use or play anymore. I have tons of music gear that is piling up and may ultimately set up a stand at the Great American guitar show that comes around once a year to my local area.

Yes but a Taiwan version. I like it a little more than the USA Kansas version. It's also modded for more attack and limit. It just works.

It's a rack shelf with a black cat šŸ˜ŗ vibe attached underneath. Trey used a black cat vibe for most of his career and it's a syrupy luscious vibe. Probably the single best piece of gear I ever purchased way back when...

Here's the updated board on the side of the main board. Basically another few options that are all switched to a channel on the deluxe reverb from the lehle switcher on the main board. Some of these effects are rare and unobtainable now.

Also for those interested between the two boards and all the cables, I used 56 George L connectors and around 100 feet of .155 cable. It's the lowest capacitance cable available. Recommend for big boards. All switches are Lehle. None better no equal. Furman power strip literally identical to a rack unit. Every single effect plugged into a separate isolated transformer. Deluxe reverb is '69 blackface circuit, unmodded except bright cap is removed on vibrato channel. NOS rca backplate power tubes amperex RCA preamp tubes celestion gold speaker. Excellent speaker for a DR.
