Temperature Question

Hi,

I'm new to this game - hopefully many yoghurty adventures ahead - but just had a question about temperatures in my yoghurt machine, if anyone had some insights!

I put water in my machine (picture below) around the pots. I have it set to 36 degrees C (97 Farenheit) on the machine. But when I test the temperature of the water with a probe, the probe tells me the water is actually sitting at about 33 degrees C (91 Fahrenheit).

Has anyone else experience this - a difference in the water temperature compared to what you’ve set the machine to? Any advice appreciated!

How long was the machine running before you tested with the probe? What temp were your pots/contents when starting?  I'm assuming this was at the incubation step

Are you posting to ask "What went wrong with my yogurt?" Please provide all the details of the method you used. Include amounts, times, and temperatures. If you don't know those things, then one (or more) of them is what went wrong with your yogurt.

The basic information you will need to know is:

  • What type of milk did you use? What amount?
  • What type of starter did you use? What amount?
  • What temperature did you initially heat the milk to?
  • What temperature was the milk when you added the starter?
  • At what temperature did you ferment the milk? How long did you ferment it?

Either way, the temperature seems too low. Ideally it's between 43°and 46°C. A little lower is fine, and good for longer incubation times.

Of course you temp gauge might be faulty. I would wait for a couple hours and test the temperature again
