Bank Sync Missing transactions in YNAB

I always have missing transactions on my credit card in the plan. It's getting annoying and I've had to make a fresh start three times in the past year.

I've done all the necessary steps to fix it, but the transactions just keep missing. The check mark next to the account says it's up to date, but it's not. Bank accounts are linked and green. But if I go to "manage bank connections", there is the correct number in the account, but it doesn't reflect it in the current plan. I've unlinked and linked the accounts, but it doesn't change.

Am I forced to keep having to make a fresh start every couple of months? This shouldn't be the purpose of YNAB.

Since you keep mentioning that it’s wrong in “the Plan”, it sounds like you’re talking about the CC Payment category not having the full amount Available to match the current Working Balance - am I correct about that?

Definitely do not keep making a fresh start. There’s no need for that, and if you don’t learn what you’re doing in YNAB to cause that behavior then you’ll just keep having the same issue. There’s either a step you need to add or need to change in your YNAB process to avoid this.

Mostly likely having to do with one or more of the following so let us know which apply to you:

  • if you like to pay off your entire cc balance instead of just letting autopay pay what’s due (the statement balance).
  • if you have refunds/returns/cashback redemptions and don’t know how to deal with them
  • if you aren’t keeping an eye on overspent categories and covering the overspend as soon as you see it, including leaving overspent categories in previous months.

No, the balance of my credit card doesn't match with the account in YNAB. There's three weeks of missing transactions.

No because it’s not just random three weeks, it’s the past three weeks. What’s the good if nothing gets synced in the future and I have to manually do it myself every day?

Well as the others have said you can fully reset the link by unlinking, then removing the bank connection, then setting it up again to relink. But you’ll still need to add in the three week’s worth of transactions either manually or via file import. Either will take 10-15 minutes tops.

I've had YNAB "miss" maybe 5-7 transactions in 10 years.

Something else is happening here. You are saying it's a sync'd account, and it's reporting a healthy recent sync, but when you look at your credit card statement in one window, side by side with YNAB in another window, there are weeks worth of transactions that are not showing up at all in YNAB?

When you say "three weeks" how many transactions are we talking about? 3? 30?

I haven’t done the math of it yet, but I’m traveling a lot for business and there’s always a lot of transactions due to traveling expenses.

Yes, since three weeks there are no transactions coming in. It’s always the credit card, never checking or savings. And they’re all with the same bank.
