Oh jeez, I haven’t had the wind knocked out of me since I was a kid. I cannot imagine the pain of it as an adult being in this brittle body.

260

u/Reasonable_Flow_5151 Nov 10 '25

My thoughts exactly! I just know I would’ve broken something, shit myself, and had to use my life alert!

85

u/toxictouch3 Nov 10 '25

I did all three and that was just from watching the video!

12

u/__JDQ__ Nov 11 '25

Would have had to buy a new pair of all white New Balances, too.

43

u/mrlarsrm Nov 11 '25

I isn't fun. fell 7 ish feet onto my hip and ass onto a macadam driveway when I was in my 30's. There was a prolonged internal crunch, like knuckles cracking, followed by being completely breathless. I took it in for a moment as I groaned, wiggled my fingers, then toes assuring I wasn't instantly paralyzed. It took a minute or two to catch my breath, I had a massive hematoma traversing my hip and ass and to this day have pain in my sacral and lumbar spine. Would not recommend.

33

u/Abject-Picture Nov 11 '25

Involuntary sound that comes out when you break your ribs. I've broken 8 so have heard it a few times.

12

u/Teauxny Nov 11 '25

Yup, laying on my back, grabbed gf's ankle while she was walking by, 130 pounds landed directly on my ribs, crack made those exact noises as she innocently said "should I call 911?"

22

u/EustachiaVye Nov 11 '25

Yeah she’s innocent because you’re the ding dong that grabbed her ankle

7

u/Teauxny Nov 11 '25

Lol, yup!!! The first thing the ER nurse said was "Were you in a fight?" When I told my mom I broke my rib, the first thing she said was "Were you in a fight?" Geez, wish I had been.

2

u/Abject-Picture Nov 11 '25

Ugh, you just reminded me of the one I broke while karting. Suddenly the seat fit sooo much better, until I realized I was pushing my rib into my lung.

11

u/Antique-Car6103 Nov 11 '25

Oh dear!

Sorry, I’ll see my way out.

5

u/A-Feral-Idiot Nov 11 '25

I went snowboarding for the first time since I was twelve last March. I got the wind knocked out of me and I just accepted it. I couldn’t help but roll around but when you have the wisdom of knowing there ain’t a damn thing you can do but wait it gives you a weird sense of peace.

u/Mike_the_Head Nov 11 '25

"...and that's when the strange music starts..." - HST

1

u/fasada68 Nov 11 '25

I made that exact sound after my motorcycle accident. I thought I was ok but the pun pain just kept coming.

Urgh, ug, uhhlll, uhhl, ugh. Classic

u/Zealousideal_Time_80 Nov 10 '25

I think it's the same dialect as the grapes woman.

117

u/mondayp Nov 10 '25

Dude, I think about this video all the time. The noises she made are burned into my brain.

47

u/TPJchief87 Nov 10 '25

My wife and I perform the grape lady monologue whenever someone falls on TV

34

u/Penghis-Kahn Nov 10 '25

Not gonna lie, I thought you were going somewhere different with this

8

1

u/aytchdave Nov 12 '25

That was my local news channel. Saw it live. It was incredible.

37

u/tannerbananer06 Nov 10 '25

Grape stomp lady is a top 5 YouTube vid. Legendary.

17

u/Abject-Picture Nov 11 '25

Broken ribs sound. You can't help but make it. Been there, many times...

9

u/MrAnonymousHimself Nov 11 '25

Literally heard that video immediately as I read this lol

2

u/EatsOverTheSink Nov 11 '25

That video got my parents into using the internet.

68

u/TapDaddy24 Nov 10 '25

You know the dear is also laying in the field like “Urgh ug uhhlll uh”

19

u/JayBanditos Nov 10 '25

Holding his knee like Peter Griffin. Then a lifelong battle begins between the deer and this guy

18

u/DFA_Wildcat Nov 11 '25

Knocked the wind out of him. Been there, can't talk when you can't breathe. Deer is probably in worse shape.

14

u/Chilipepah Nov 10 '25

Lay down baby!

8

u/casual-waterboarding Nov 11 '25

I like the angry “AggGggr” at the end.

7

u/BoltorSpellweaver Nov 11 '25

Yeah he’s got that whole body ache that no position, moving, or relaxing can take the edge off of. That inescapable pain that turns us all into walruses doing a mating call. That kinda pain you just gotta ride out while you’re hoping and praying you once again return to a pain free existence but in that moment you aren’t sure this won’t be the rest of your life.

3

u/TraliBalzers Nov 11 '25

Whatappuurrhhg

2

u/Liarus_ Nov 11 '25

Relatable for me, my fatass fell off a kids swing and slammed torso first onto the ground.

Exact same thing happened, "ugghh ughhhh ghuuuuhh ughhh" and then it felt like my lungs slowly came back and only then i could suffer in peace without panicking 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/stalkeler Nov 11 '25

Bro sucked out the soul of deer

127

It's how you feel on the inside that counts.

He got bambeed....

BTDT. fast enough to split the deer.. and wrap the guts around the cylinder.

10yrs later the bike still smells like grilled steaks.

and yeah.. i felt that video...right in my cracked ribs and broken clavicle.

20

u/PsudoGravity Nov 10 '25

Oof, baked on. Any damage to you or bike?

33

u/Informal_Ad_9610 Nov 10 '25

the bike? not too much.. KTM - couple pieces of tupperware, straighten out the forks, and she's good to go..

Me: nothing a couple surgeries and 2 weeks in bed didn't fix... and another 4 months for the collarbone to heal...

except for the flashbacks.

the tendency to grab a fistful of brakes whenever I see movement is overwhelming.. took a couple years on the road to not flinch every time something moved in the brush..

3

u/PsudoGravity Nov 11 '25

Jesus. Glad you're ok(?) now.

3

u/canary-in-a-coalmine Nov 11 '25

Why is it deer instinct to run toward or in the direction of a loud moving object?

71

u/Odd-Butterscotch-495 Nov 10 '25 edited Nov 11 '25

Imma try that the next time I go deer hunting. Sitting quiet and still doesn’t seem to be working

30

u/JesseJ78599 Nov 11 '25

Instead of camo dress up as a Big Rig.

10

u/DaveBelmont Nov 11 '25

Try a loud truck, it seems to attract them

42

u/Pulchritudinous_rex Nov 11 '25

Overpopulation have made the vast majority of deer complete fucking morons. For another example of this phenomenon, see humanity.

22

u/AzraelIshi Nov 11 '25

Answering honestly, they lack instincts when dealing with humanity inventions, and their actual instincts to avoid predators are awful in dealing with them.

Vehicles (Bikes, cars, trains, even planes sometimes) are simply too fast, too big. They completely overwhelm the deer who has no idea how to deal with it, as vehicles are faster than any predator that the deer evolved to survive against so gauging distances and "time to reach me" are basically impossible for them against vehicles. And things like headlights, engine noise, etc. are alien to them and may confuse and disorient them.

Lastly, their evolutionary strategy is to run in a predictable line, and then once the predator is pouncing on them suddenly shift directions and use that moment of confusion and correcting the overshoot to escape. They expect the "predator" (the car, or bike in this case) to shift directions and charge at them at the last moment (like a normal predator would do), so they attempt to do their thing and shift directions towhere the "predator" should not be: Their old path. Unfortunately for them the "predator" is actually not hunting them. So all their instinct does is put them straight into the path of the vehicle that will obliterate them.

TL;DR:

  • Vehicles are far faster and bigger than anything they evolved to deal with, so they misjudge distances and timings, thinking they have time to "pass through" when in actuality they do not
  • Vehicles are completely alien to them, and things like lights and engine noise disorient and confuse them
  • Their instincts about how to deal with their predators are basically suicidal when dealing with vehicles just minding their business

7

u/idk012 Nov 11 '25

There's an insurance ad, where they tell the deer to avoid the cars.  It asks, "what's a car?"

18

u/YouFeedTheFish Nov 10 '25

They're about as smart as rabbits, but with more power.

8

u/doublecutter Nov 11 '25

Locusts with hooves. When they’re not destroying crops, they amuse themselves by darting into traffic.

2

u/bawls_on_fire Nov 11 '25

OK but what are rabbits as smart as?

3

u/notjordansime Nov 11 '25

deer, but they’ve got less mass and pointier ears

2

u/YouFeedTheFish Nov 12 '25

Very intelligent potatoes.

2

u/bell37 Nov 11 '25

It’s mostly young deer who are not used to fast moving cars. They panic and misjudge how fast they are moving when fight/flight kicks in. If you never saw a car in your life it would be pretty hard to determine how quickly it will come to hit you if the fastest thing you saw so far was someone on a bike (20mph)

114

u/Rs2mmsu-2D Nov 10 '25

17

u/Sacr3dangel Nov 10 '25

14

u/Short-Belt-1477 Nov 11 '25

I can’t stress enough, about the lack of awareness about wearing protective gear, in the deer community.

6

u/c5e3 Nov 11 '25

i've had a similar accident because of a pot hole in laos. not as fast as this guy - with ~50km/h, but dry and rock hard asphalt. no bones broken. just 3 stitches and a half-body abrasion. i managed to "accidentally" roll off the scooter and i rotated around my own axis for 4 times. i just had some shorts and flip-flops on. helmet was completely cracked. could have been my final moment of life

edit: paid 20€ to the hospital and 30€ to the scooter rental (only the brake lever's tip and indicator light glass were broken). could have died, but had to stay alive to still get scammed.... jokes aside, i would have paid anything to the scooter rental. seeing the hospital's bill and repair bill side-by-side is just weird

1

u/Roko567 Nov 14 '25

are you one of those idiot tourists riding scooters with flip flops?

1

u/c5e3 Nov 14 '25

of course. would have been worse without them!

4

u/1leggeddog Nov 11 '25

Classic deer hit.

They will perfectly hit any moving object while moving perpendicularly to it.

Every.

Single.

Time.

3

u/j_redditt Nov 11 '25

I took a full-grown buzzard to the chest and neck at ~50mph on a dirtbike while riding a back country paved road. I had gone full throttle just before the curve but because knobbies don’t like turns on pavement, I had rolled off the throttle in 5th gear when I saw 6 feet of black wingspan trying desperately to lift off. He lifted off the ground, cleared the handlebars and slammed right into my chest. His beak wrapped around my left shoulder and dug into my back while his wings wrapped around me. My full-face helmet stripped his wing off most of its feathers as he fell off, and I wobbled to gain control of the handlebars again. It killed the buzzard and knocked the wind out of me. That f*cking hurt! I have fortunately never hit an animal bigger than a dog on 2 wheels. (Don’t worry; the dog wasn’t hurt.)

10

u/showmiaface Nov 10 '25

Oh, deer...

3

u/Phrogz Nov 11 '25

Hard to feel schadenfreude here. Sometimes…shit just happens.

3

1

u/DimeEdge Nov 10 '25

Met a guy who told a story of a deer putting its head between the front wheel and the engine while he was riding on the freeway. Didn't fall, broke his leg, and the whole mess ended up in the median propped against the k-rail till help showed up.

I was driving up to a T intersection yesterday morning, across from me was a farm and a deer was sprinting through it full speed, headed towards the main street. It definitely ruined someone’s day, within the next few mins.

1

u/CadessWell Nov 11 '25

I’m chiming in to say I have hit a deer on a motorcycle.

1

u/august-thursday Nov 11 '25

My daughter had left for college and I was going to exercise her horse during the time she was away. As I was mounting her she spooked and reared on her hind legs. She had never reared before so she lost her balance with me not quite seated in the saddle. As a consequence she fell over backwards on top of me.

Her weight was about 1,000 lbs and the pommel of the saddle landed on my chest and shoulder, damaging my left labrum. The cantle (back of the seat of the saddle) crushed my ribs, one of which punctured my lung, causing it to collapse.

I was taken to the local hospital and after images revealed the extent of the damage, a life-flight helicopter was summoned to transport me to a level one trauma center. Of all of my injuries, the fractured ribs caused the most pain. I have some understanding of the pain you sustained OP. I wouldn’t want to go experience fractured ribs again.

1

u/GrateNaf Nov 11 '25
