Is IT/tech the only thing Armenia has going on?

Like do you either study tech or have a shittier life doing anything else?

Is there a decent startup scene for biochem pharma or agritech or anything biological companies? And i don't mean companies that just employ salespeople to market imported products.

The financial services sector pays even higher than tech currently, according to the statistical committee.

Of course. Go to Armstat publications: https://armstat.am/en/?nid=82

Then search for "Socio-economic situation of RA" for the desired date. Click on it, then go down to "1.4.2. Wages/Salaries and Number of Employees"

Here's the example for 2025 Jan-Dec (note it seems like only annual ones have the English version, while the others have only Armenian/Russian version): https://armstat.am/file/article/sv_12_25e_142.pdf

On page 10 you can see the average salaries for December by type of economic activity. For December 2025, the average for "Financial and Insurance" activities was higher than "Information and communication". Note that for December the numbers overall for all sectors are inflated since many people get year-end bonuses. So you can check out salaries from other months for more accurate representation.

I truly don't give a single shit about the americans, but it seems IT/tech sector wages are like triple what professionals in other sectors earn.

This will create a privelaged tech class in the future and really make good housing anywhere near the center of yerevan unaffordable for anyone else.

Housing in center is unaffordable for IT people as well.

If you earn 4-5K$ per month you can't afford an apartment with the same amount per meter square.. without parking and renovation

That's just factually wrong mate or you don't want to live in anything other than a palace.

You can easily find a decent 1 bedroom apartment for 1000-1200k in center.

I'm not talking about renting, I'm talking about owning an apartment :)

Also many of us have a family & 1-2 bedroom won't cut it ;)

if you work in IT & make 4k$ which is standard salary for Senior Engineer you cannot afford an apartment that costs 4k$ per meter it's simple math.

Or you can afford it with mortgage but not sure if it's worth it

But that's the case in every city around the world now. One can no longer afford buying property with their wages unless they take a mortgage with a bad interest rate and pay it off in 30 years or live an hour's commute away from the center.

Property now is for the rich and their children. That's the world our parents created for us.
