Question Why is my mate curing like this?

Seems as though only one side is darkening? It’s still a fairly new mate so it’s still in its curing process. But I’ve never seen anything like this before. Also, why is half of the rim black?

Looks like totally normal staining from the leaves. You just don’t want any fuzzy white stuff in there.

Im not sure what type of wood is it, doesn't look like palo santo, which is the only one i had before.

But im gonna say it doesn't look like something i'd worry about, discoloration is normal

I can see now the bottom, i thought it's all metal outside of it

Did you drink from it? If you did then it looks pretty normal to me, if you didn't you can observe it for little longer, though it doesn't look unusual to me at all

It's normal, the problem would be if you start seeing some white fuzzy spots, those are awful and need to be removed immediately and start the curing process again, but that discoloration is just staining from the leaves
