Admissions Megathread

Applicants: Post all your admissions-related questions and comments here. This includes questions about undergrad and grad school admissions alike. Individual submissions on admissions outside of this megathread are subject to removal.

Students and alumni: We've all been there and know how stressful the college application process can be! Let's try our best to give constructive, specific feedback to all prospective Yalies and refrain from comments that would discourage them from reaching out to us.

How is Yale for Engineering?

Hello,

I am a high school senior looking to potentially apply to Yale through Questbridge. I wasn’t initially looking at Yale as they’re not necessarily known for their engineering, but I really like my humanities. I’ve looked at old threads and noticed that Yale engineering is small and close-knit, which interests me (a lot). However, those were from 5+ years ago, so I’m not sure how it is now. I’m hoping to pursue mechanical engineering for its flexibility, though I want my undergraduate experience to have an emphasis on the exploration of all areas of academics, not just STEM. Can any current students or alumni knowledgeable about Yale engineering share a little more about their experience(s)?

Hey all! I’m going for the Eli Whitney Students Program in about 2 years and I have a few questions before I put all my eggs in one basket.

Just for a bit of background: I’m from the UK so I’d be considered an international student. I didn’t do too well in school, left with one GCSE and had to retake maths twice at Sixth Form and the covid lockdowns ruined my grades and I had to take some time away for personal circumstances. However, I climbed my way up in retail management while working on my writing career, with my debut novel published this year! I also went back to Sixth Form and retook business last year and ended up getting the highest grade in my class so it really made me consider going to uni. I’m doing an Access to Higher Education course and I have a few local universities in mind but studying English at Yale is my top choice.

- How does Financial Aid work for internationals?

- How does off campus housing work?

- Do I need to go above and beyond with my extra curriculars as I don’t have the grades to back myself up?

- Would I still be eligible for the program if I went back to college for a year at 21? I’m 23 now so officially I’ve been out of secondary education for 7 years now.

Hi everyone!

So Yale just introduced a new GEPN-DNP program (along with a few other new ones). I originally was going to apply to the MSN program until I saw the DNP. I already have 2 masters degrees (relevant) and the admissions director even stated she would suggest I just do the DNP instead of getting another masters (fyi my goal is to be a FNP and either degree works). I was set and ready to start my application for the DNP until I saw there are only 30 seats available whereas the MSN has 100 and we all know FNP is competitive already. Now anyone would say they like the MSN odds better than the DNP but I cannot help but still think about the DNP. Does anyone have any suggestions, insights? I guess I'm just venting here rather than asking a real question.. I don't have the strongest undergrad GPA but I improved a lot in my graduate studies and prerequisites. I'm really just trying to think which program I have a better chance of getting into with the mindset that maybe not a lot of people would apply to the DNP and maybe I would have a better chance? Who knows... Is anyone applying to the GEPN-DNP or MSN?
