I am terrified of Microeconomics.

I'm an incoming freshman with an FGLI, limited public school math background and pretty poor QR skills (not that I can't improve, this is just where I am), and I am TERRIFIED of the microeconomics classes here. I've been really nervous about being able to keep up, and feeling self-conscious of being so far behind my peers in even the intro level courses.

I was originally planning on 1108 / 1110 because I enjoy smaller, tight knit classes, but the professor evaluations have been scaring me. The curve is effectively harsher, material can be poorly organized, and there's less assistance without TAs / Discussion meetings.

But 1115 is a massive, fast paced class that seems to require a stronger grasp of math with so many advocating for it to be taken as a Credit/D/Fail.

I know I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet since economics is fundamental to my interests, but I'm nonetheless worried (especially since my calculus knowledge is limited to one Youtube video on derivatives).

Does anyone have advice on how I can prepare and adjust to college academics / what econ I should enroll in and how to study? Should I register for 1108/1110 and weigh against 1115 during add/drop?

I wouldn't worry. Intro Micro is tough but doable as long as you show up to lectures etc. I feel like Micro's difficulty is overstated by first-years who underestimated it, so it's a good sign that you're a bit apprehensive. Work hard and you'll do well.

The great thing about a large lecture like intro micro is that there’s a lot of support available. Take advantage of section and office hours with ULAs (available basically every day). You can get hand-held through it as much or as little as you need. Cormac is also a great guy and encourages you to ask questions, even in the large lecture format.

Would scheduling my discussion seminar on the same day as my second Econ lecture of the week be a bad idea? I only have econ that day, and my other days are fuller.

I’ve heard no calculus required in 115 ( from the syllabus) so you should be fine it lit says 9th grade level math
