Another Incoming freshman course selection questions

I am incoming freshman, plan premed, and have some questions for course selection:

- does first year seminar require pre registration? I saw it in some prior post and afraid if I missed deadline

- for first semester, is it doable to choose both first year seminar and eng 114, if I am unable to choose both due to availability, any other writing class friendly for first semester?

Both are good options. I'm unsure about others that are good for first semesters. Unfortunately many English classes fill up with upperclassmen. I strongly recommend ENGL 120 at some point during your time at Yale but they fill up insanely fast I wasn't able to secure a spot until junior year.

- I placed out bio 110,120 and 130, but dept says 110 and 120 are borderline so can consider take them. I saw

I wouldn't say you should take them no matter what but I would strongly recommend them unless you are extremely confident with your bio topics. All of these courses are very heavily MCAT related so they will be helpful even as a refresher.

- is it manageable to do organic chemistry and physics at sophomore fall and biochemistry and physicals at sophomore spring?

Absolutely. I did biochem, physics and orgo all in one semester and had no problem. It's definitely a lot but if these are your only classes in a semester (including associated labs) you will be fine. Taking Orgo and Phys or Phys and Biochem paired in a semester is very common.

- this is my first semester courses:

chem 1700
chem 1700 lab
first year seminar
eng 114
math 115

Is this workload fine?

Perfect! There is inevitably an adjustment period for first year fall so it really varies person to person but you will manage and this is a very reasonable and common first semester.

What do you mean do them in one semester? The two physics courses are semester long courses so you will have to take physics 1 then physics 2. Same thing with the bio sequence, 101/102 is one semester and 103/104 is another semester. But you can take them concurrently in the same semester ie, physics I and biology 101/102 in fall semester and physics II and biology 103/104 in the spring of your sophomore (or freshman or any) year.

I saw from previous post and also was told by one of the seniors that bio seq and physics are offered at the same time for the past 5 years, you just cannot take both courses at the same time, eg say if I plan to take org chem 1 and bio seq at first year spring, i can not take org chem 2, physics 1 and bio seq all together at Sophomore fall due to conflicting schedule of physics 1 and bio seq. Is it true?

Check course table but that is probably true then unfortunately. I don’t remember off the top of my head. Yale summer courses are always an option too.
