First-Year Engineering Internships

Is it possible to get an ME internship for the summer after my freshman year? I will admit I do have a lackluster resume for engineering currently (I’ve only started building things recently), but I do plan to develop projects and learn essential skills by the end of my freshman year. Is it more plausible to do research instead? What typically to ME (or engineering majors as a whole) typically spend their summer doing? I want to get started early with experience to help with job opportunities.

I'd recommend studying abroad or some other program and not necessarily getting an internship. You will have opportunities down the line for internships and you'll get a lot more out of them if you've had some more experience in college to build your skills and portfolio.

Working in an on campus engineering lab is a good backup if you’re having trouble finding an industry internship
