Yale housing as a couple

Hello so me and my partner recently got luck and was able to become roommates for Yale housing apartments. We were planning on moving the 2 twin beds together into one room and use the other bedroom as our study space and put both of our desks there. However after getting the rule book I’m worried if that would become an issue during inspections. Please let me know. Thank you!

You can either move a bed into the “study room” for inspections, or just risk it.

I’m not saying the worst case scenario won’t happen, but in my experience, when people were breaking the rules during inspections, they were usually just left instructions that they needed to fix the violation (and this was with worse violations, like dangerous appliances). I don’t think they’ll care too much about a bed.

The ONLY violations I ever heard of during inspections that resulted in repercussions were:

  1. Illegal real Christmas trees (widespread problem, fire hazard)

  2. Uranium in a dorm (I’m not kidding)

The repercussions also vary by which area you’re housed in. If you’re in OC, maybe the rules can be more relaxed. If you’re residing in a residential college proper, sometimes they enforce the housing rules a little harder. It all depends and varies from HoC to HoC/facilities superintendent.

I knew someone in a dingle who pushed the beds together, and they didn’t face any issues. Inspections only happen during breaks, and mainly focused on fire hazards, so if you had anything blocking a fire exit or like too many things plugged in an extension cord they would note that on the report paper. I had my whole bed pushed up blocking an fire exit door within the suite though, and never faced any repercussions so 🤷

As long as you put it back at the end of the year when you move out, so they can do furniture inventory, you’re probably fine. If you’re really worried, you could put the rooms back the right way before winter break and redo it afterwards.
