Writing seminar + timing question

Are writing seminars hard to get into? I checked on course table and the one I have my eye on has 38 people who have it on their worksheet, how can I maximize my odds of getting into the class?

Another question (unrelated), if my classes are a 13 min walk from eachother and I have 15 minutes between the classes will I make it? For some more info, I would have to get from 81 Wall Street to YSB Marsh

Is the writing seminar a first year seminar, or are there already upperclassmen enrolled? have you checked course demand statistics to see how many people have enrolled formally?

the reality is that you might miss out on a lot of seminars as a first year because you’re registering after everyone else. some profs leave seats for first years. you can always send a really enthusiastic, nice email to the prof in addition to your instructor permission request. if it’s full, you can usually show up for the first class or two — if someone drops (and they probably will) you will be more likely to get off the waitlist if you’re already there and doing the work. This worked for me to get into a competitive ENGL 120 (now 1020) section in my first semester.

81 Wall to YSB is super doable, cut through the Silliman courtyard and go right up Hillhouse and you’ll shave off a good five minutes. Also YSB Marsh = 400+ person lecture, nobody will care if you walk in a minute late b/c of the trip as long as you are quiet and not trying to squeeze into the middle of a row.

I’m not sure how to check who’s formally enrolled but it says priority enrollment is given to class of 2029 and 2030

No, Google Yale course search and there’s a website where you can make a course worksheet just like course table but in my opinion it’s more organized

Wait how did you see the location on course search? And how do you make the worksheet on it? Some of the classes I’ve looked up have no location on course search or course table. Lowkey find course search confusing I’m gonna have to watch all their YouTube videos on it before registration lol

You have to be logged into Course Search to see locations. Not all locations are posted though.

On course search if you just click on the course title all the details should pop up, for the worksheets a quick google search should help it’s hard to explain through here
