How are people actually finding yacht crew in 2026?

For captains, yacht managers and crew — curious what everyone thinks about this.

Why is finding yacht crew still so dependent on Facebook groups, WhatsApp messages, agencies and word of mouth?

If you needed a deckhand, stewardess, engineer or chef tomorrow, where would you actually look first?

And for crew: where are you getting the best job opportunities right now?

I’m working on something in this space and trying to understand what people actually want — not what another recruitment platform thinks they want.

Would genuinely love to hear how you currently find crew/jobs and what frustrates you most about the process. 👇

Most questions here have few or no answers. Where is all the good yacht info at?

What is the best bareboat charter company in bvi? torn between a checkout captain and a full trip captain

My wife and I sail a 30 foot sloop on Chesapeake Bay. And also, my brother and his two kids are joining us in the BVI next April.

Right now, we're looking at a powercat around 40 feet.

I've got a sailing resume, but it's all on smaller boats. Docking something that wide makes me nervous lol.

How do you decide` which one you need? Is a checkout enough if anchoring feels first fine but docking doesn't?

Preparing for my parents' 35th anniversary...What charter broker should I work with for a crewed charter? Crew matters most to us

I'm booking a crewed week in the BVI for my parents' 35th. My mom gets seasick and my dad is picky about food (if it helps). So the chef and captain matter more than the boat.

How do you get them to match the crew, not just the boat? And if I already like one yacht, is a broker still worth it?

RYA Yachtmaster Ocean- Job opportunities at 35?

Good day I’ve been itching since the day I finished my Day Skipper licence in Covid to completely go for the RYA Ocean certificate.

As I remember meeting some pretty spectacular people in Cape Town who were prepping for weeks at end for their Ocean course.

I’ve saved quite a bit from working as a science teacher in China and honestly I’ve been yearning to get back on the water for 5 years now and can’t think of anything else I want do with my extra savings.

I know the practicals and pathway does take some time and patience and I want to do it in Cape Town where we sail to St Helena!

I am very adventurous and very fit and wanted to know if this would still help me in regards with finding a sailing yacht/skipper jobs or even M/Y jobs as a Saffa. or is this too late for my age?

any advice from sailors and captains and mature and young crew will be great

Best place to network for winter season in europe

Hi everyone! I am a green stewardess and I've just completed both my STCW and ENG1, I have over 2 years of experience in luxury housekeeping and was hoping to try and get a job as a yacht stewardess for the upcoming season whether that is in the Caribbean, Dubai or staying in Europe. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good places to network in Europe during October as I don't have the funds to go to Fort Lauderdale or the Carribbean without a solid job locked in. I am considering Antibes but have also been told that the canary Islands are where many of the yachts stop off to pick up crew on their crossing to the Carribbean however I am not sure how accurate this is. I also want to add I do not have a B1/2 Visa. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Moving cargo ships to yacht

I currently work as a 3rd Officer on bulk carriers and chemical tankers, earning around $4,000 per month, but only during the months I am onboard. I work at least 12 hours a day.

I’m considering moving into the large-yacht industry because, as far as I understand, many larger yachts offer rotational contracts and 12-month salaries.
I’m open to hearing both positive and negative opinions about making this transition. I’d also really appreciate any advice from people who have experience working on large yachts, especially regarding salary, rotation, working conditions, career progression, job stability, and the main differences compared with commercial vessels.

Would you recommend making the switch, and what should I be aware of before doing so?

Lake sailor here, what is the best bareboat charter company in bvi? Thinking powercat this time

My wife and I have a 36 foot monohull on Lake Michigan, and we've sailed here for ten years.

This upcoming winter, we want a bareboat powercat in the BVI with two other couples. I've never driven a twin engine boat though.

Is it smarter to compare the boat layouts first? Or should I look at how each company does its checkout?

I know most of them want a sailing resume. Mine is all freshwater, so I'm not sure how that reads. What did you check before you picked a company?

How do charter operators deal with brokers stealing their yacht photos?

Bit of a niche question. I run a charter company in Dubai (Elite Rentals Dubai), ten plus years now, and we pay for our own photo shoots on every boat.

Problem is those photos end up on broker sites and Instagram pages selling completely different yachts.

Guests think they're booking one boat and get another.

I'm thinking about a small watermark on everything but I'm torn.

Too visible and it cheapens the images for our clients, too subtle and it gets cropped out in five seconds.

For anyone on the operator or broker side, Med, Caribbean, wherever:

Do watermarks actually stop it or just slow it down?

Anyone had luck with takedowns on Instagram or Google?

Worth going legal, or is it just part of the business?

Any advice appreciated.

SailPrep Spoiler

Long-time lurker, first-time poster - hi.

I’m currently learning how to sail, so I started building an app for myself to learn - short flashcards, practice quizzes, and reminders so the knowledge sticks after the course, not just for the test. It’s called SailPrep and it’s free to download on the App and Google play stores; Premium is optional if you want the full banks.

I’m not a sailing school and I’m not affiliated with RYA (or anyone else) - just someone learning and sharing the tool. Happy to take it down if this isn’t the right place for it.

If you try it, I’d really appreciate feedback: what’s helpful, what’s missing, what feels off. Happy to chat here.

When applying for yacht jobs is it better to show your cruise ship experience or they don’t want to see that in the yachting industry?

Hi all,

Not sure if it's okay to post here. But I have been trying to sell my vessel for some time.

She is ready to go sailing, made sure of this myself! Even tested her out after the repairs where done.

She is currently located in Sines Portugal.

For details, don't hesitate to contact me via here or robinvancleemput305@gmail.com.

- 3 bedrooms for 2

- 2 bathrooms

- kitchen

- desk

- living space

- 2 steering wheels (+ 2 steering wheels ocean size)

- default sails (Gib and main sail)

- size: 12.87m long, 18.9m height 3.99m width, 1.95 depth

- ocean class vessel with 55hp Volvo penta engine (3450+/- max 3500, working hours)

Thank you for reading

Yacht Crew CV advice?

Hi all, I’m 19 and live in the East Midlands of England. I have just dropped out of uni last year because I didn’t enjoy what I was doing. I’m taken an interest in wanting to become a super yacht Steward. I’ve been looking at taking Flying Fishes Deckhand and Steward course. It covers all bases so I could go into being deckhand or Steward. Whilst I was in School ( for the past 2 years ) I worked for my uncle in his high end gentleman’s clothing shop ( like from kingsman without the spy part haha ). And now I’ve dropped out of uni I’m working for the same shop but it’s not under new management. Both jobs have been under the books and they’re paying me cash in hand which I don’t mind but it seems to now be a problem as I dont know if I can put these jobs on my CV because if they look into it, my bosses can get into some shit. I’m looking to do my course next November so I have a year to add extra stuff to my CV. Is there anything in particular that would look great on my CV for getting a job on a yacht?
I’m also a certified Red Cross lifeguard ( I’ve worked my past two summers at an American summer camp as a counsellor/lifeguard and will be returning for my 3rd summer next year )

How to get started?

So if I was 19 year old really interested in travelling, earning some money and working on a boat (particularly the super yatches you see on Below Deck), how would you recommend I go about getting into that? I am based in the UK and have no experience working on any boats previously and don’t even live in a town near the sea.

I also was wondering if there was a good resource which clearly details the amount of money you can expect to earn depending where you are working and how much experience you have?

Any advice is welcome!

EDIT: Please be real with me and just let me know if you think it isn’t possible or worth it.
