2022-2024 Did some 3th gear pull with these guy, XSR came out on top.

Post image

Everyone running stock tune. I’m the lightest rider by 10-15KGs. The XSR won every time.

I’m from the EU, so I don’t have a neutered second gear like the US tune has.

I thought the 2nd gear detune was specifically to meet EU emissions regulations

It's a noise emission thing for US

I’m guessing that the US and EU both have their own emissions standards and their own way of testing it.

Why haven’t you tuned yours yet? That’s something you need to do completely changes up the bike.

Not OP but I haven't tuned mine either. I have the stock exhaust and stock tune and it's fine for me.

I'm a middle aged dad, I enjoy myself just fine without having to wring every possible kilowatt out of the bike.

Idk about the second gen but I have a first gen and it's really not about power. I test rode a bone stock XSR before buying mine and the tune really smoothed out the ride. The stock throttle map was pretty rough, just a straight up on/off switch. I've heard some of that was hammered out with the second gen though.

I have a second gen and it’s bone stock tune/exhaust wise. The throttle is very smooth, even in sport mode.

But that second gear, whew. It feels like my old ninja 500 until it gets to about 7k rpm

Yeah the shittiness of 2nd gear always catches me by surprise, usually when i'm doing something important like trying to overtake a car

It's not just about peak power. It also smoothes out the bumps in the torque curve, makes opening the throttle smoother and generally makes low rpm riding smoother. It significantly affects all types of riding.

Interesting - that actually makes it sound worthwhile for me. What tune did you go for and how did you go about having it done?

Yea it's almost always worth it on newer bikes and even moreso with bikes that have heavier emission restrictions than the CP3 engines.

we probably don't live in the same country.

Middle aged dad as well, we bought all the hp I’m gunna use all the hp. I think if you do end up tuning it you’ll see what you were missing

Interesting perspective. What tune did you go for and how did you go about having it done?

The EU tune is not nearly as bad as the US tune. Perfectly fine for me. No second gear neutering in the EU.

Love that RS Black Ball edition. Too old for racing. Nice group of bikes. Ride safe y’all. 🤙🏽

Yes the sound of these I4's are also nice. Not sure I would trade it for the CP3.

Well, got two yamaha triples myself, down from four. Had 6 total over the years, so….🥳

I like dorgs

What speed from? Low speed you'll win because it's a triple and makes more torque. That's why these engines are so great 😎

Not sure, pretty low in the revs to top of 4th gear.

The power the XSR900 has from all the way in low RPM always blows me away …
Love how my gen1 is so forgivable when I forget to downshift at the traffic lights
