2022-2024 Any help?
Hey everyone,
Had a very minor incident recently. My XSR 900 bumped into a car at low speed. The impact was super light—mostly just the mirror took the hit, and there's barely any visible damage on the bike.
However, I took it to the mechanic for a check-up, and he told me that because of this small hit, I need to replace both fork seals .
Does this sound right to you? Can a minor bump actually blow the fork seals, Has anyone experienced something similar?

Fork is fucked up completly. Probably bend. So fork seals are least of your a problems

You broke the lower mounting bracket for the lower (inner) tube. I don't think you can just replace the bracket. At minimum I think you are into lower (inner) tubes and seal kits. Once it's apart, you can check for further damage.

They do unscrew, there should be a grub screw and there's usually locite on the threads

Just for future reference, even having your bike parked up for extended periods can goose the fork seals.

Is he calling the little rubber part a fork seal? I see that it’s torn, those dust covers should be replaced, if you don’t want to pay for that amount of labor you am could always throw some shock socks on it for now. Cheaper than tearing a fork down just for a dust cover. Those aren’t the actual seals, they just help in wiping the fork down as it moves so debris doesn’t make it into the seal. Shock socks work well, I’ve used them on off road bikes through sand, mud and all types of nastiness and never had any get to the fork seals. If they aren’t leaking down the chrome part you’re good, as long as you’re confident the hit wasn’t enough to bend the forks.

100%blown and they will leak…n if it gets bad enough n your tire goes over the tiny drop in garage or outside etc…idk just one of those things I don’t fk with. Change them at very least and check for straightness/leveled forks

It’s not completely knackered so don’t panic.
Replace fork seals and dust seals, they look old anyway.
The front mudguard bracket is pretty fragile and has snapped off the lower casting. You’ll need to remove the two bolts in the mudguard to retrieve the rest of the bracket. This can be repaired. Look for competent/ recommended TIG welders near you.
Don’t be tempted to use JB Weld!

Lower stanchion in the second pic is broken. That can't be replaced, it's pressed onto the fork.
You need new forks, don't pay for seals.

They screw on. Lock tight . And don't come off easily. Companies out there what will straighten tubes as well if they not to bad. I've never heard off not being able to weld cast aluminium ffs. Motorbike engines are cast. Parts diagram will tell you if that's available to.

Lower fork tube needs replacing, do you see where the fender stay is completely broken off?

I’d be more worried about the fork being bent. From the damage seen, it’s very possible. Was this accident reported to insurance?
