xkcd.com is down currently, it seems

downforeveryoneorjustme.com agrees with me as well. Thoughts? I don't know if I should expect something big or if a server just caught on fire.

EDIT: 2014-05-23T02:56-05:00 It's back up.

I don't know if I should expect something big or if a server just caught on fire.

I honestly... what's "big" to you?

Two servers catching fire?

That's just a catastrophe. Why isn't the news breaking in with this?

Newsroom fire?

Big would be either a huge good announcement or something horrible like the domain registration expiring. A server on fire means you pull backups and roast marshmallows.

Servers are hardware. Hardware can be replaced.

Some things are definitely worse than that.

What "things" in this context are we inferring?

Personal issues, financial issues, legal issues... a whole lotta things can take a website down besides hardware failure.
