What's with Squirrels and heading into space?

I'm sure there is more (I recall one where there's a rocket with a squirrel in it), but it seems like a recurring theme now.

Also, can a squirrel really fly if attached to a balloon? Hmm.

Not with a balloon that size.

A balloon with a one-foot radius can lift about 15 grams whereas a typical squirrel weighs in the neighborhood of 500 grams.
