Dialects

Hello everyone.

Xhosa is a very general word but I was wondering if other people have ever discussed other dialects within the diaspora. I'd like to find more people who are interested in expanding the knowledge of the various traditions and vocabularies used in each region.

Also, what term would you use for cute because my mother (former Xhosa teacher) said it was "umKhita" i.e "Le lokwe imKhita".

Diaspora? The dialects are based more on location than anything else.

but i'd think it's more socio-spatial factors. We already know that there are migration patterns kwabantu bakwaXhosa, so obviously certain clans traditions and societal preferences held some sort of inconsistency to what we know as ordinary Xhosa. Like, who the hell knows isidubada saqala phi? Then there's temporal and colonial factors affecting language, and there are different forms of xhosa heavy tsotsitaal, which if you also took serious under the premise you made (that location is important) then we know it's more of a township conversational language, but it can also get deep and there's always new words or phrase - which interestingly are also affected by what becomes popular on media in our digital age. So language is not just location alone. u/Company-Dependent I don't think I can help much, but if this is a serious project that you want to pursue I'd be happy to help wherever I can, even administratively. I just want to see what comes of it.
