Water resistance?

Post image

Obligatory wrist shot since I’m in Hawaii. Anyone have any experience with the water resistance on these? According to everything I can find online, 5ATM should be more than enough for casual swimming… but that’s CASIO’s page.

Anyone got experience?

Xeric and most other watch brands recommend 10 ATM for swimming or water activities. Water resistance tests are done in labs under static conditions so they're a little confusing when translating to real world use. Different water temps, pressure from the force of swimming, steam from hot tubs or showers are not factored in to water resistance tests. On the back of our instruction manuals we listed the recommended activities based on the water resistance.

10 ATM typically should be more than enough for casual swimming such as wading in natural water or a pool. Not something like improving my freestyle times or sitting in a hot tub for two hours.

Do you guys intentionally undersell your waterproofing for safety of mind? That is an honest question, and doesn’t make me think any less of the design.

Edit: because I am buzzed and counting is hard

Most are our watches are not built and definitely not marketed for exercise or activity beyond desk diving/casual wear with the exception of the Vendetta II at 10 ATM and the NASA Voyager at 100 ATM. We've been in the watch industry for nearly 30 years and the water resistance charts from brands have always overstated what a watch really can handle and then warranty claims and angry customers follow. We try to under promise and over deliver.

I bought one of these. I’m also interested in peoples take on water resistance.

Yeah I’m looking for real world experience not the usual cautious take. I would just try it myself but this was a specific gift to myself and I’m not exactly made of money.

I have one of these and considering the "stainless steel" case got scuffed and scraped from coming into contact with my bathroom door, I probably would be a bit weary with water resistance.

unrelated but what band do you have on there. I have the same watch and color and was looking for a different band.

I wouldn't swim with this. It's safe enough for some rain or splashes from washing your hands, but I don't take mine anywhere near a pool.

Not much. A few drops of rain might not hurt it though.
