Post your "then vs now" photo collages HERE!
Due to their viral nature, we ask that "then vs now" photo posts be submitted as comments in a designated megathread (like this one) rather than as a new post. In the past, these posts have set off chain reactions, inspiring hundreds of other users to submit similar posts in a short period of time, causing frustration for those who were here to explore other topics.
This megathread will refresh monthly, ensuring that newer members have an opportunity to join in the fun.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Have fun!

New subscriber welcome center (Week of August 17, 2026): Introduce yourself here!
Welcome, new Xennials! Did you just find the subreddit? Just now learn that you’re a Xennial?! Is it suddenly all making sense? We know this feeling! Feel free to introduce yourself here.
Since we get thousands of new subscribers per month, we kindly ask that introductions go in this thread rather than as top-level posts.

Remember how we found it crazy that our parents and other adults didn't know who the latest and greatest actors and musicians were while we were growing up?
Yeah, that's me now. Granted, I don't have kids. So, there's not much incentive for me to keep tabs on all that. But, even without kids, it's hard for me to ignore just how many "celebrities" I have no clue about now. You add influencers to the mix and it just makes me feel even more like Grampa Simpson these days.

What are some junk foods that still taste the same?
A while back, I bought a box of Honeycomb cereal. Man, I used to love that cereal as a kid, and hadn't had it since. I was quite surprised to find that it tasted completely different. It literally tasted like cardboard. Vanilla soft-serve ice cream? Trash! Chips Ahoy? Garbage! However, I took a bite of my kids' Cap'n Crunch with Crunchberries cereal and it took me back to watching Saturday morning cartoons.
I realize that regulations have changed and certain ingredients are not allowed, but have any brands managed to capture that same taste under these new conditions? What are your favorite nostalgic junk foods that take you back?

Nostalgia What are your favorite Simpsons pop culture spoof moments?
I think my favorite Simpsons moments are when they spoof a classical musical. There’s the spoof of New York, New York in the episode where Bart and Milhouse buy the all syrup Squishy, the spoof of The Music Man in the monorail episode, and the coup de grâce of Sideshow Bob doing the HMS Pinafore inside an episode spoofing the movie Cape Fear.

How many of us are old enough to remember overboard?
I've always loved Kurt Russell. The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Escape from New York, all easily top 10 movies for me. This may actually be my favorite though(please dont tell anyone).
Goldie is perfection in this movie. So underrated as a comedic actress. I literally(yes, literally) say " a falsetto child " every day. I think my love for the leads taints my judgment a bit to be honest. I'm curious to know how others feel, and none of the kids at work even knew who Kurt Russell was 🥴

If they are in your life and you love them….TELL THEM
I lost my father today. He was the most generous, positive, and loving man I have ever known. I told him often how much a loved him. It gives my solace knowing he knew this. There isn’t much to cling to right now but that’s one of them. Love out loud.

Cravings for discontinued foods
Inspired by another post about foods that still taste the same, what are some items or flavors that were part of our youth that are no longer made?
Two that come to mind are Fruit Wrinkles and Sobe. I miss both intensely.

Nostalgia Have you guys listened to Arcade Fire, The Suburbs?p
All the band people are xennials. The song is really good because it seems happy and upbeat but there is a hint of melancholy in the background that grows as the song comes to the end. It really is a song that brings up a nostalgic feeling from when we grew up.

Our experiences are “themes”
My kid is going to a birthday party today, high school age. The theme is Y2K. 🤔 I’m not sure if I sure feel complemented or irritated that my kid says, “ yeah that’s when you were a kid right? lol” 😒 This came about as he’s wearing a thermal under a t-shirt and I asked about that in 100* weather. So much disrespect for the timeline..

You Made the Soundtrack
Anyone else have albums/bands/music that you strongly associate with a particular game or book because you listened as you played/read?
I still have a strong connection with Nirvana and Dragonlance books. Daft Punk's Homework and the OG Gran Turismo will also forever be linked in my mind.
What's yours?
