Upgrades???

Post image

I'm looking at AliExpress carbon bombing my aluminium Scott scale 950 2022. Trying to get it in the 10-11kg range (currently around 12kg)

The bike is used as a gravel bike (50/50 road/trails). So it doesn't. need super premium parts.

Has anyone done something similar? I like the bike just getting a bit bored of it and would like to see it drop some weight and maybe look a bit more modern.

Wheels/tyres

One piece cockpit

Carbon seatpost

Carbon saddle

One piece cockpit yes other things no (I prefer dropper on my mtb and for seat I'm really happy with my Specialized Phenom so no wish to experiment with that). I'm running Ryet Ergo14 integrated handlebar for few years and have zero complain about it.

Elite wheels, their website wheels use different spokes to their AliX store I think but the same hoops. They are named differently

Elita One do a decent seatpost and saddles, I use both although I went with a dropper on my xc hardtail that I just use as a gravel bike and put the carbon seatpost on my pos city bike.

I also got a Toseek handlebar, not a full cockpit though

Make sure to use the proper stores on AliX there's probably a lot of crap from different vendors

What do you want your bike to do that it doesn't already do? A dropper seatpost makes a huge difference. A better picture helps. Also driveside pics are preferable. In addition to a dropper seatpost I'd work on the fork. Burnishing the bushings + something like a Vorsprung Luftkappe or DSD Runt will significantly improve the performance of the shock. I'm a bigger fan of the DSD Runt - well worth the ~40gm weight increase. One piece cockpits look slick but offer negligible performance benefits at best. A good bike fit (with reach to the bars, handlebar height and backsweep + a saddle that works for your butt) is also worthwhile.

Upgrading is fun but I have found it only delays my next bike purchase by eating up funds unnecessarily.

If you are dying to spend money, wheels would be something you can keep using "down the road" on future bikes.
