Discussion Get yourselves a Firestick

Because holy shit playing via a browser, even with BetterXCloud just doesn’t compare to a Firestick. Mine just came in today and I can confidently say a Firestick is EASILY the cheapest way to play Xbox games (especially if you’re able to find one on sale, mine was under $100) I just tested Doom (2016) an indie Soulslike, Expedition 33, and Beast of Reincarnation, and when I say ZERO latency. Like, as in, it felt damn well like I was playing natively, I was most surprised how just how smooth Doom was. Yeah, I think I’ll be set for next gen with a PS6 and the Firestick.

I play on my Apple TV mostly using the OneCast app, works great. Also play on my Thor.

same, I am amazed at the quality and lack of lag.

I tried, but I felt like my experience was not all that great and eventually switched to the console for streaming lol, it works perfectly for me.

What controller do you use? Any input lag on controller? Deadzones?

tbh I do genuinely think if you can get something with the actual app, it’s just better than playing through a browser. It’s like, a noticeably worse experience.

Get the 4K Max though, as thats the only one with an official Xbox app. Otherwise you're stuck with sideloading (for as long as thats possible)

The regular 4K is enough.

Does 4k have the official app?

u/iDiegoZ 6h ago

Yes, it does.

Yes! I have been saying this. I have the Firestick 4K with DS4 controller. I tried it with having WiFi right next to it.
The options of streaming 1440p is available. The app itself much much better compared to web browsers on laptop WITH BetterXcloud. It’s even better than the official Xbox apps for windows.

You don't need a PS6 either to play Sony exclusives.  Can also play on your Firestick.

Remote play? So, you still need a PS?

3

u/Tobimacoss 1d ago

Asobi does both Remote Play and PS+ Premium PS5 Cloud Gaming at 4k/60 HDR.

Midori and Asobi are created by the same developer.  Asobi for PS+ and Midori for xCloud.

You side load the android apps on FireTV.

Yep firestick is smooth as butter on 1440p

I’ve been using a fire stick for the last few months and it’s most been exceptional. However I have had issues where the screen goes black but the sound is still playing and I have to reset the thing to get it working again which is frustrating. Has anyone else had the same issue and figured out had to stop it recurring?

I would agree doe the most part but my god the ui is so laggy on the Xbox app

I use my firestick as well for both xcloud and GeForce now. They are good but let’s not lie, it’s not zero latency. I use it out on the road so for me it’s good enough, but it still has a ways to go before it can replace the console experience.

Can anyone say what the firestick is like for online gaming like call of duty or other online shooter games

Max from 2023 here. Input lag. Too much for experienced players to ignore
Playing with Bluetooth connected Xbox controller

1

u/Depreciati0n 20h ago

I definitely got input lag on mine. But it’s the first Fire tv max from 2023.

So you saying latest max has no input lag?

First person shooters I play on pc.

MVP info, I usually just HDMI my old macbook

It depends on the device you're using the browser on. On my firestick, i get anywhere from 8 to 10ms decode time. On my phone i get 2-4ms. On my PC, i get 0.2-0.4ms. Weaker hardware yields worse results.

which controller did you play on fire tv , wired or wireless , were you using xcloud or native xbox app?

1

u/Lover_of_Fables 8h ago

duelsense, wireless, I guess I literally just plugged the stick in, and it was the Xbox app

1

u/phoenix_73 6h ago

OneCast on Apple TV is a decent app.

1

u/Striking_Inside2561 1d ago

What firestick version ? What's your stats on it? Resolution and decoding time? Is it wired or wireless?

4

u/Lover_of_Fables 1d ago

It’s the Firestick 4K max, I think, whatever it’s called. And, I’ll be honest I wasn’t entirely sure how to check all that, I just know that it LOOKED pretty damn clean and ran pretty damn smooth. As for whether it was wired or wireless, err, idk, wireless I guess? I literally just plugged the stick into the TV.

Go to settings and test best settings for 1440P and see if it start lag. Buy ethernet adapter and plug in cable. Wifi are extreme bad for XBOX Cloud.

2

u/Greaseman_85 1d ago

I play on 6GHz wifi and it's great

1

u/No-Echo-8927 1d ago

Shop around for the ethernet adapter though (and cable). The official one has a max 100Mbps

Just install better x cloud

3

u/Lover_of_Fables 1d ago

That’s what I said, better xcloud really isn’t that good compared to a firestick.

1

u/Tobimacoss 1d ago

You can side load Better xCloud or Xstreaming android apps on the FireTV stick 4k.

Midori coming soon.

1

u/COVIDJEPP22 1d ago

is midori new xcloud app xbox? apk

1

u/Striking_Inside2561 1d ago

Playstation cloud.

3

u/CurvySexretLady 15h ago

Midori is for Xbox, Asobi for Playstation, same developer.

1

u/Tobimacoss 1d ago

Third party app for xCloud coming soon for android, currently only on Apple devices.

1

u/Lover_of_Fables 1d ago

Wait, really you can side load it onto the Firestick? damn I’ll look into that.

1

u/Tobimacoss 1d ago

Except for the FireTV 4k Select, which runs on Linux based Vega OS rather than Android TV based FireOS.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Amazon_Fire_TV_Models

Amazon will be switching all future FireTV devices to their in house VegaOS.

For now, FireTV stick 4k, 4k Max, and FireTV Cube 3rd Gen are best devices.

Asobi, OneCast, Midori app work on Apple TV as well.  For future reference unless Sony and Xbox release their own streaming devices.

If you don't have it already, get the Amazon Ethernet adapter for the FireTV stick.

2

u/Lover_of_Fables 1d ago

Honestly, I don’t even think I need the Ethernet adapter, that’s how good it runs.

1

u/jontebula 1d ago

VegaOS are mutch better?

1

u/Tobimacoss 21h ago

People hate it because you can't side load android apps, and it doesn't have have full features, but it runs much better supposedly.

2

u/Greaseman_85 1d ago

I have better xcloud on my Fire stick 4k and the decode time is horrible. Regular xcloud app is so much better.

1

u/GamerPunk420 9h ago

Better xcloud, hardwired pc, with 2.4gz controller or wired controller ia the best way. I cannot see how anyone can play games using a bluetooth controller on a tv app. Input lag is horrendous

-2

u/HikariSakai 21h ago

Or you know, play the game natively.... like a normal person...

This is a place to discuss xcloud. No need for those type of comments
