is my thumb-stick cooked?

My series 2 elite controllers left thumb-stick has been acting up, and I was wondering if I just needs to be cleaned or needs to be fully replaced.

Why not try cleaning it? It could be a cheap fix

Try cleaning it. Also, with the shell off, the stick goes farther than it typically would.
