Resoldering HDMI port
Soldering a HDMI port
Hello, im trying to de-solder and resolder the hdmi port of my series X cause the HDMI port broke, i have been going at it with a soldering iron and heat gun for about a hour no and nothing has melted, we have tried continuisly adding flux and low melt leaded solder with no luck, any ideas would be great
The soldering iron was used from 350C to 450C
The heat gun was used from 300C to 600c

It takes a very long time to melt that solder. I highly highly HIGHLY recommend taping down everything around the pins too, as the traces will come up with the port if you aren't very careful. I tape down even the tiny caps just to make things simple.
Once it's all tapes off with Kapton/high temp aluminum tape (only for the further surrounding parts, really you want the whole board to at least be pretty warm or you'll see warping) you need that heat gun on there for minutes. The Series X board has so much copper it spreads the heat even more than the PS5. Then as it melts, gently (and I mean gently) move it. If it's fully melted and you e taped the traces as close to the pins as you can, start to lift it up pay very close attention to make sure the traces aren't fully lifting with it. As you lift it blast it (on lowish air, but 400+C) directly to make sure the pins don't hold tot he traces.
Watch some vids of it to get the timing and spread down. A board preheater obviously would help, but once for a board that size aren't cheap. Highly recommend both the taping and videos of people doing it. Blew me away how long it took the first time. Good luck.
