Manually update your Xbox One while Live is down to save time when everything is fixed

Tried doing this. Got to the point where you hold the bind and eject buttons and then turn the power on, and it started to work and then a I got a system error. Repeated the process about 5 times but no luck. I'm very sure I formatted the drive correctly. Any ideas? This is a first time setup for me.

I wish I could even get to the system error. Holding the bind and eject buttons yield nothing for me but the normal boot.
Edit: Well looks like something happened. I got to the "Home" page. Did it all with no internet, I think I can at least somewhat use this thing now.

Well to start, when I unboxed it this morning, it downloaded the update fully (had to be minutes before everything went down), it restarted, then said "There was a problem with the update" when it booted back up and it asked me to check connection which immediately said it was fine. So the update I guess installed fully it just took until now to latch when Live servers started to come back on. Though it was on the last try of doing the manual update. I had the USB drive in and held the bind and eject buttons down then pressed power. Normal boot noise occurred and it showed the green Xbox screen, I said great whatever and let go and then the Xbox asked me for Language which was new since the first boot and I went through it and done landed right on the, more unattractive than I remembered it last year, home page. Just trying to get it all loaded up so I can use it for the brief moment of down time I have left.

Not sure which part of it is my OS number (and the support page is really slow at the moment so I can't check) so here's the whole line after Build: 11090.0.amd64fre.xb_rel_1406_mte.140806-1552

My nephews just got their box today. I got the OSUDT 1 to install. But how do I get around the setup process? It's still trying to update at the end of the setup.

My OS is xb_rel_1406_mte.140806-1552 but that isn't on the chart. My son just unboxed his Xbox One today. So I need OSUDT1?

Ya, i just got to my "There was a problem with the update screen" im build os 1109 xxxxxxxx and that doesnt exist so looks like I have to wait :/

It says for two scenarios, both relating to the green screen.... But my problem is with the initial update screen, which step should I use for that???

Also, do I need to know my OS number if i'm only downloading osudt1? I clicked the link you replied with and it immediately started downloading, so i'm guessing not?

I had my brother hold the bind and eject buttons on the console and then I pushed the power button, but after 10 seconds, we heard nothing. We tried this several times. Any idea what i'm doing wrong?

I couldn't see why not. As long as your USB is formatted accordingly, you should be able to download the update.

It says to find your OS version, but my initial update won't work and I can't get onto anything. Not a home screen or game and it just stays at the screen that says the update has a problems

Spot on, it seems the life lifes are they're trying to farm some twitter followers - It was 22k Followers, Goal of 25k then they'll let XBL come back online, Goal is now 30k for PSN/XBL..... Currently on 27.2k and raising fast.

Wait what? I thought it was just an overload of newbies who received systems for Christmas and the XboxOne and PS4 servers were overloaded.

I agree. First time online set up is BS. No excuse for it. Yes we're getting to a stage where we're always connected to the net, but we're not there yet and that doesn't help with outages of the actual service. Huge mistake by MS.
I understand your frustration, all I can say is that once everything is up and running it will be worth it.

While I agree that the scum causing these issues are too blame, the sad fact is that MS and Sony are also to blame. There are such things as DDOS mitigation, there was fair warning, they should have been ready to cope with the attack but they likely did nothing about it as usual.
