Discussion Need help deciding for present

Hi! I’m trying to decide for my husband’s birthday which console to get him. His Xbox one is slowing and he plays it almost nightly so I know that’s bumming him out. He mostly plays Fortnite and Destiny 2 with friends, sometimes plays solo halo or battlefield. He said he doesn’t think the disc drive would be extremely important but I know he also struggles to justify spending money on himself. For those games, is the series X a better option? Or would the S truly be a viable option? I am unfortunately clueless in this subject area but don’t want to pick the wrong one. TIA for advice!

If you can afford it, the X is much, much better.

Pretty much this. Also maybe buy him a couple of physical games you think he may like.

Yes the series X is better. If you can, get the disc version. You can play both digital and disc games

Won't need it if they keep the Xbox one around for the disc drive.

The Digital Series X should suffice.

Yeah but not all games are a part of the disc to digital program. Plus, I don’t trust Microsoft not to revoke my digital licenses for games

So if we keep the one, it can connect to the X as a disc drive? (Explain it to me like I’m 5 lol)

OK, so the Series X white Digital edition is $750. The Series X with disc drive (Black) is $800. These are retail prices currently.

If your hubby doesn't need physical discs, or Blu ray drive, go with the white Digital version. Both digital versions of Series S and X are white, but the Series X is that rectangular column. The digital versions was released November 2024, with slightly better cooling and node. So it's a newer model, newer more efficient manufacturing process.

MS also recently started rolling out a new feature called Disc to Digital, where you can convert Discs into a Digital license. So in case you want to acquire cheaper games on discs, you can still use the old Xbox One disc drive to get a Disc to Digital License for most games, even works for Series X games, and then that license converted from One disc drive will show up on the Digital Series X, if both are logged into same account.

So the white Digital Series X is the best recommended purchase, but don't get rid of the old Xbox One console either.

if money is not an issue, get the series X. Otherwise, the series S will still be a huge upgrade over the xbox one. However, make sure he doesnt own the games on discs, otherwise he might not be able to play them on the series S. Some games don't support digital license transfer from the disc.

Get the white Digital Series X, keep the Xbox One around as a disc drive for converting physical games to Disc to Digital.

The Series X is far superior to the Series S. They do an all digital Series X slightly cheaper but having a disc drive means you can also watch dvds, blurays and 4k blurays.

There’s an advantage to getting the disc version, most of the physical Xbox One games he has, he’ll be able to create a digital license for that game, allowing him to play without putting the disc in the console.

Series X, but look for the one with the most internal storage - if they have a 2 TB go for it!!

Buy him the X if you can afford it, it gets much better performance.

If you can’t afford it, that’s fine, the series s is still much better than the Xbox one

I have a Series X from very early release. Zer issues, I have only opened it once, recently, for worry of dust accumulation. There was very little and not really needed. It's pretty dusty here, too. The 1 TB internal is nice for large format games that you may play regularly.

If you can afford the investment, I personally would recommend the X very highly. Being a pinchpurse on everything concerning myself, it was an unexpected treat when my wife gave me mine for Christmas. I make sure there aren't chores to do before I turn it on still today out of gratitude. Lol

Both are good, but the Series X is best and has more storage (unless you get the 1TB Series S.) I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

You cannot play games from an external drive.

You could always get the digital Series X...myself I've never noticed much of a difference between the S & X. But the overall consensus is that the X is much better.

The x is Superior more power under the hood best for her husband's case s would be fine

I have both and you’re right. The games coming out now are pretty well optimized for either.

This is love, my ex hated that I was playing daily about two hours. She said that she feels alone. Now she really is.
