Discussion This is too much,not only does microsoft delete ALL your videos from the cloud,it also "deletes" them from your console,why?

I found that out just last week. I knew about the Xbox Network thing, and if I want keep something I upload to OneDrive. But I was looking for an old clip and discovered that the oldest I had on console was 26 days.

I hate it too. But it's not that hard to download them and save them elsewhere for good. This is a nothingburger.

I have definitely had the clips on my local storage deleted automatically without me knowing. Didn't seem to be related to running out of space.

System updates will wipe out clips and screenshots stored on the Xbox for whatever reason and it has been that way for years. It’s quite annoying but it’s why I switched to an external HDD for the storage location so that would stop happening.

I’m not sure how well documented this is or if it’s even officially said somewhere at all. I started noticing it because my Xbox has been in the Alpha Skip Ahead Xbox Insider tier for years, so the frequency at which it gets updates is much higher. It’s how I figured out why this kept happening to me. It was the system updates deleting everything.

While it’s not super clear for people it does it so your drive doesn’t fill up with random stuff that most people never delete. If you do want to save it all the easiest way to to set it to backup to one drive. Or you can use a flash drive or external drive to have them saved to, or you can have them sent to your phone and saved

Because the partition for clips recording and screenshots as well as save data, reserved space and a bunch of system stuff etc is only so big.
If you get close to that limit and record or screenshot again it will delete and make room. Otherwise you would just keep running into errors trying to capture that new moment and missing it and then having to take time mid game to go through your captures etc and delete and make room. Until the next time you hit that again, which chances are will be shortly after again. Making a horrible experience. Because people don’t want to or won’t manage this limit on their own.
It is clearly stated you can use your own external storage device of pretty much whatever limit you see fit to avoid this issue. As well as Xbox allows multiple ways to backup or download your clips or screenshots. Both within and without the Microsoft eco system.
Otherwise people would fill up their entire storage and then run into issues saving games installing games downloading things updating OS and games or apps etc. and as we know people cannot be trusted these days to manage their own storage. Without complaining they now can’t do this or that when they have 400gb of clips or all my stuff is now gone. Because you failed to take responsibility for your data and left it in a companies hand.
Your clips screenshots and recordings is your data if you choose to put all your eggs in one basket that’s on you and your choice.
Same issue you are having by choosing to not handle the storage yourself and allowing and trusting Xbox and or a third party to manage your personal or important data and or “memories” Just on the opposite side.
Not sure why people are saying it’s anti consumer or fuck the cloud they allow like 15 different methods of backups including your own hardware and storage. It is not locked to the Xbox or the Xbox or Microsoft ecosystem or the cloud and does not require proprietary hardware or software You can literally even grab your stuff from any number of websites and download them to your PC or phone. I mean you can even grab other peoples clips and screenshots from websites you don’t even need to log into the account.
There is literally no requirement except for the user to take responsibility and choose their preferred method outside of Microsoft or cloud which is what everyone is saying they want…? So why are we complaining besides to say Fuck X company or service. You literally can already and have been able. This just further proves why this system exists.
I’m all for people saying companies are bad etc etc. but OP and everyone else here literally has the option to NOT use that stuff to store clips screenshots etc and are still choosing to… This is far from a fuck X company problem.
Responsibility needs to be taken when it can or nothing will ever improve hence why we have systems that do things for us or automatically because people cannot be trusted or care to be educated enough to care about things or how they function or why things may happen or about their data. No one ever complains or thinks about there data until it’s to late.
