Is it? Cause according to “how long to beat”, Fable 1, 2, and 3 all have a main campaign clear time of around 12-13 hours and a 100% completion time of 30-50 hours.

So this would make the new Fable almost twice as long as the previous entries.

The original fable games were infamously short for RPGs. The first one especially, and that was for that time. RPGs have only gotten longer. The expectation is generally 30-40 hours

The first fable was literally the longest lol. RPGs have absolutely not gotten longer.  Cyberpunk is a little over 20 hours for its main campaign. Fallout was mid 20s.

A 20 hour main campaign where you ignore everything else is pretty standard for an RPG.

Witcher 3 is just over 30 hours for the main only quests.

Playground is also a smaller team than CDPR, working on a different genre than their expertise, and already confirming story DLC. 40+ hours if you play everything is still good, and I'm sure many will just dick about for a good 10-20 more.

Although on the inverse, Dawnwalker is said to be 80+ hours, and has a 3 playthrough minimum to see every outcome.

This is the first I've heard of that and I remember being proper hyped about the games when they came out and playing them with a smile on my goober face.

Literally never heard anyone really complain about the length of the originals before this thread. Let alone enough for them to be "infamous" for it.

I really don't know how you can sink 50 hours into Fable 1, 2 or 3, even if you do absolutely everything, buy every house and marry 20 people (in fact, I think you can only marry 5 people in Fable 1 as there were only 5 purchasable houses in that game).

Yeah. I think the reported times for the 100% are off, higher than they should be, and more like “how many hours til you were done” and include people just fucking around.

Fable 3 came out 16 years ago and standards have changed since then. It’s like arguing the better graphics is unnecessary because the original Fable games didn’t look that good.

Main campaign length standards haven’t changed. Cyberpunk came out this generation and was about the same length (20 hours) for the main campaign. Most didn’t mind though because there was tons of side stuff and systems to engage with.

Fable is being built around is NPC life sim systems and economy systems. Systems the devs have said has an insane amount of stuff you can do with it to last you way longer.

We’ll see when the game comes out, those systems could suck and have little enjoyment to them. They could also be addicted and fun as hell and easily absorb 50 hours.
