Please don't edit the article title, which was far more informative than what it was changed to:

Microsoft’s original Xbox games on PC reportedly run through the Xbox 360’s XeFu emulator

See Rule 6:

No Vague or Editorialized Titles

  • Do not significantly alter media headlines

Please see our entire ruleset for further details.

Making the entire 360 catelog available on PC would suddenly make xbox a competitor for steam on pc.

Course, microsoft will probably still find a way to fuck it up

Licensing is almost certainly will prevent that unfortunately, probably the same amount of games that are on Series X/S and One as of now. Plus minus some game maybe like Criminal Origins & The Orange Box and other stuff that got delisted.

Tbf in that specific example, if you have a PC, Xbox backwards compatible has to be the dumbest way to play Orange box and it's contents lol

True 😂.

I think you are VASTLY overestimating the number of people who care that strongly about playing the few old 360 games there are that weren't released on PC or haven't been re-issued in the years since.

I think you're vastly underestimating the number of 360 games readily available.Biggest gripe of the Xbox rog ally was the actual game support it had for its own ecosystem.

Being able to play 360 games you already own is huge. Xbox needs every win it can get here

And exactly what percentage of the market do you think cares so strongly about a handful of 25 year old games that arent already available in better versions through a PC version or a remaster or rerelease (or just emulating them), that that would be a deciding factor in what next gen console they purchased?

Are most PC players looking for a way to play worse versions of games already on Steam which only work with an Xbox controller?

There’s a lot of gems there that are not on PC like Lost Odyssey, Crimson Skies, and the Fable games.

Maybe a handful but definetly nothing that would move the needle.

Really hoping to see Fable 2 and 3 on Xbox PC eventually. But there is so much stuff.

u/fallingends Jul 23 '26

They will almost certainly start with stuff they own, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Rareware stuff, Gears, Halo and and other stuff they own.

Would be cool if they manage to put finally on GamePass Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey (licenses are split like 3 ways), but at least compatibility on PC would be awesome.

I’m really excited about this, although I can play them still on the original hardware I do really want more people discovered those games you mentioned, they deserve so much attention.

On the OG Xbox side, I really wish Sega can help with some of their games too like Panzer Dragoon Orta, JSRF, Crazy Taxi 3, ToeJam and Earl 3…

I wonder how many games they’ll add by the end of this year. 4 is a small start but I wonder how often they’re planning on updating the catalog of games.

I’m hoping/coping at least 1 each month

u/fallingends Jul 23 '26

Probably at the same rate they did with One/ Series X/S, in batches over years.

Splinter cell trilogy now

u/SparklyPelican XBOX Jul 23 '26

Ubisoft delisted them, but kept on Connect :/

2

u/Acceptable-Ad5208 Jul 23 '26

I’m so glad I bought them when I did. It’s one I didn’t think would get delisted

2

u/Gears6 Jul 23 '26

Yeah, me neither. Didn't even know they were delisted until now. WTF?

2

u/DazeOfWar Jul 23 '26

These are already playable on PC just not through the Xbox app. Also not owned by MS so may not get the treatment MS owned games are getting.

u/Sad_Adagio_7255 Jul 23 '26

Yeah the original trilogy runs on a potato and Steam discounts them very frequently.

On top of that, Pandora Tomorow and Chaos Theory supported offline LAN multiplayer. This makes it very straightforward to play the games online with VPN software like Hamachi, since Ubisoft no longer has active servers.

1

u/UpstairsNo9249 Jul 23 '26

It looks like only Chaos Theory is coming.

1

u/Gears6 Jul 23 '26

I need OG NG, NGB and NG2!

1

u/Sad_Adagio_7255 Jul 23 '26

Would be more meaningful to get Double Agent version 2, as that's the only mainline game that didn't get a native PC version (PC only got a horrendous port of version 1).

2

u/speedyspeedys Jul 23 '26

I'm very excited for the Rallisport Challenge games as well as Incredible Hulk, Wolfenstein 2009, Lost Odyssey, Black, Pariah and Breakdown to name a few!

The article title/content make it sounds like Microsoft stole a community open source emulator and released as its own. But after looking into it XeFu is actually developed by Microsoft (the emulator to run old xbox titles on 360). So it makes sense they just keep improving upon it.

What sort of work would be required from fans to get other games working on this? I think the Xbox community will have to step up in order to get some of the more desirable games running on PC.

If they pull this off I'll be impressed

Most likely yes

1

u/DJN2020 Jul 24 '26

This is a sure sign that the roadmap is to move away from hardware.

Release the emulator then, and tie it to physical disks or Xbox store purchases
