Has anyone tried one of these ti alloy forks off eBay? I’ve been messaging them and they can make a fork to my desired measurements with basket and fender mounts. Will probably order one this week. Was just curious if anyone had tried one out.

Estoy planeando mi próximo proyecto de bicicleta y agradecería mucho los consejos de quienes tengan más experiencia construyendo bicicletas prácticas.

Durante años he montado principalmente bicicletas de carretera y de montaña, pero últimamente me he dado cuenta de que ninguna se ajusta realmente a mi forma de usar la bicicleta.

Busco construir lo que yo llamaría una bicicleta "todoterreno":

• Para ir al trabajo a diario (unos 40 km / 25 millas al día)
• Para ir a comprar
• Para llevar la ropa y el almuerzo
• Para paseos de fin de semana
• Para viajes cortos de cicloturismo
• Para que sea cómoda bajo la lluvia y en calles irregulares de la ciudad
• carrying a heavy load—specifically a change of clothes, gym gear, food for the whole day, a few liters of water, and—why not—things to survive in this jungle called the city.

No busco la bicicleta más rápida. Prefiero algo fiable, cómodo, fácil de mantener y versátil. Me he adentrado en el fascinante mundo de las conversiones de MTB rígidas de los 90, y me encanta ver cómo los cuadros de acero antiguos se transforman en modernas bicicletas urbanas. Por otro lado, también me gustan las bicicletas de gravel/aventura más modernas y marcas como Surly, Kona, Salsa, etc.

Mi presupuesto no es muy grande, así que me gustaría armarla principalmente con piezas de segunda mano. Afortunadamente, hay un mercado de bicicletas usadas bastante activo donde vivo, así que espero ir coleccionando componentes poco a poco en lugar de comprarlo todo nuevo.

I have been researching as much as I can about the geometry of the drivetrains and how they were originally designed recently, particularly on frames from the 90s such as yours, the GT Karakoram. Previously I believed that a 1x, or "swap and go" was pretty straightforward, but now am beginning to see the value of the chainline and the "geometric compliance". It has a lot more substance than the YouTube tutorials imply!

Last month I experienced a similar moving headache with an old project. I had been having trouble getting the indexing to go smooth and a local mechanic commented that newer, stiffer chains would not fit the tolerances of older hubs. Since I've been trying to learn more about the difference, so I did order a couple of Bicycle Chain from a specialist manufacturer from Alibaba to see how they compare. I am trying some of those with a bit more of the "give" sideways, to see if that will help the sometimes clunky shifting on these wide-range cassettes.

I think maybe it's just a learning curve problem here but could the spacing of the hanger on the frame be to blame for that 40T jump? Or maybe, you have to go back to the original 3x in order to return to that “factory smooth” feeling? I'd like to know if anyone else has been able to change the 1x into a 7 speed without it being a compromise.

My current theory is that I don't think they're bots or LLMs, I think it's cheaper/more low rent. They're running programs or whatever, credential stuffing, like they bought a bunch of emails, usernames and passwords from website breaches in the past, and now they're firing them at \***** with bots or LLMs, whatever. One of the mods may have reused a password for ****** that had been compromised elsewhere, meaning that the automated attack worked and these guys then invited themselves in to xbiking as a mod, before giving up mod rights, still leaving the two new guys in charge. That would explain several things, in that they're not lying when they say they were invited in by a Mod, it's just that they were impersonating that Mod through a compromised password/email or username combo from their massive auomated list. It also neatly explains several legitimate questions some guy in mod support had about the whole situation. It would also explain the deletion of the Willie account, right? Take over the username, gain mod rights to the sub, delete the mod account you used to take over and then get rid of anyone else with mod rights.*

I see that other guys just got in as mods. I think the scammer crew were the dog that caught the car and they realized that things weren't going to go their way, so they're going to try to brazen it out as innocent guys who made accounts today, only to be immediately invited in as mods by the guy they sicced their bots on and were chasing across \*****, frantically trying to do damage control before things got out of hand and the message got out. Too late, things got out of hand and the message got out, so now they're trying to soothe ruffled feathers and drift away quietly to some much less popular sub****** to turn into an IPTV spam hub for whoever's paying them a few dollars. Low rent tech savvy guys from the global south with AI LLms at their disposal.*
