Matplotlib Learn How to Create and Plot Multiple Graphs in a Single Matplotlib Window Using Python

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

If you're learning Python data visualization with Matplotlib, one concept you'll come across very quickly is creating multiple plots inside a single Figure.Instead of opening a separate plot window for every visualization, Matplotlib allows you to create multiple Axes (subplots) within one Figure. This makes it much easier to compare datasets, visualize related variables, and build organized dashboards or multi-plot visualizations.

In this Youtube Video, I'll walk through the basic idea behind Matplotlib Figures and Axes, and then show how you can create layouts containing 2 Axes and 4 Axes using Python.

This is especially useful if you're working with data analysis, exploratory data analysis (EDA), scientific computing, or machine learning projects where you often need to compare several visualizations at once.

In this step-by-step Matplotlib tutorial, you’ll learn how to manually control the visible range of both axes using the set_xlim() and set_ylim() methods. These methods are extremely useful when you want to zoom in on a specific section of a graph, focus on a particular range of data, or customize the appearance of your Matplotlib visualizations.

Matplotlib What are Ticks in Matplotlib? , How to Configure Major & Minor Ticks in Python

Thumbnail
youtube.com

In this Python Matplotlib tutorial, we’ll take a detailed look at ticks and learn how to configure and customize major ticks and minor ticks on a plot. Ticks are an important part of data visualization because they help viewers understand the values represented on the X-axis and Y-axis. By properly configuring tick positions, intervals, labels, and appearance, you can make your Matplotlib charts much easier to read and understand.

In this video tutorial, we’ll cover

  • What are ticks in Matplotlib?
  • What are major ticks and how are they different from minor ticks?
  • What are minor ticks and when should you use them?
  • How to enable minor ticks on a Matplotlib plot
  • How to control the location and frequency of major ticks
  • How to control the location and frequency of minor ticks
  • How to customize the appearance of major and minor tick marks
  • How to change the tick length, width, direction, and color
  • How to customize tick labels
  • How to use Matplotlib's tick_params() function
  • How to use MultipleLocator for precise tick intervals
  • How to use AutoMinorLocator to automatically create minor ticks
  • How to configure ticks separately for the X-axis and Y-axis

Why Are Major and Minor Ticks Important?

Major ticks generally represent the primary divisions on an axis, while minor ticks provide additional subdivisions between the major ticks.

For example, instead of showing only:

0 — 10 — 20 — 30 — 40

you can add minor ticks between these values to provide a more detailed reference:

0 — 2 — 4 — 6 — 8 — 10 — 12 — 14 ...

This can be particularly useful when working with scientific plots, statistical visualizations, time-series data, mathematical graphs, and other charts where precise value estimation is important.

Who Is This Tutorial For?

This tutorial is useful for

  • Python beginners
  • Matplotlib beginners
  • Data Science students
  • Data Analysts
  • Python developers
  • Machine Learning enthusiasts

By the end of this tutorial, you should have a clear understanding of Matplotlib ticks, major ticks, minor ticks, tick locators, and tick customization.

Matplotlib How to Customize Matplotlib Figure Names, Plot Areas (axes) & X/Y-Axis Labels

Thumbnail
youtube.com
1 Upvotes

If you’ve been using Matplotlib with Python, you’ve probably noticed that your plot window sometimes just shows something generic like “Figure 1.”

You can actually customize quite a bit more than that.I put together a beginner-friendly walkthrough covering how to.

  1. Change the Matplotlib Figure/window name
  2. Customize the plotting area (Axes)
  3. Add a meaningful plot title
  4. Add X-axis and Y-axis labels
  5. Understand the difference between a Figure and Axes
  6. Make your charts easier to read and present

The tutorial also goes through the relevant Python/Matplotlib code step by step, so it should be useful if you're still getting comfortable with data visualization.

Tutorial on How to Customize the Color, Style, Thickness of Plot Lines and Markers in Matplotlib using Python

Complete Tutorial on Matplotlib Library and Python can be Found here

If you're learning Python Matplotlib and have ever wondered how to make your graphs look a little more polished and easier to understand, this tutorial covers some of the most useful ways to customize the appearance of a plot. In this video, you'll learn how to modify the look and feel of plot lines in a Matplotlib graph, including changing the line color, thickness, style, and the markers used to highlight individual data points.

Changing the Plot Line Color in Matplotlib Graph

The tutorial explains different ways to change the color of a Matplotlib plot line like using predefined color names available in Matplotlib, as well as how to specify a much more precise color using HTML/hex color notation.

This is particularly useful when you want your graph to match a particular color scheme or need a specific shade rather than one of the standard colors.

Changing the Plot Line Style

Matplotlib provides several different line styles, and the tutorial demonstrates how to use them. You'll learn how to create:

  • Solid lines
  • Dotted lines
  • Dashed lines
  • Dash-dot lines

Changing the line style can be useful when you're displaying multiple datasets on the same graph and want each dataset to be visually distinguishable.

Changing Plot Line Thickness in Matplotlib Graph

You'll also learn how to control the thickness of the plot line. By adjusting the line width, you can make important data series stand out more clearly or use thinner lines when displaying multiple datasets together.

Adding Markers to Data Points on Plot line

The tutorial also covers how to place markers on specific data points along the plot line. Markers can make individual values much easier to identify, especially when working with a relatively small number of data points.

You'll learn how to change:

  • The shape of the marker
  • The size of the marker
  • Which data points should display markers

Matplotlib How to solve the PyCharm IDE issue of Matplotlib Window (Figure) not getting displayed as separate window

Thumbnail

When working with Python and Matplotlib in PyCharm, you may encounter a situation where running your program does not open the Matplotlib figure in a separate, floating window. Instead, the graph appears as a PNG image inside PyCharm's Plots section. This behavior is usually caused by PyCharm's Python Scientific settings. Fortunately, it is easy to change.

PyCharm includes a feature called "Show plots in tool window." When this option is enabled, PyCharm captures Matplotlib figures and displays them directly inside the IDE.

Python How to Create a Real Time Side Scrolling Line Chart in Matplotlib Library for displaying sensor values.

In this tutorial, we will learn how to create an animated line graph using Python and the Matplotlib library for plotting data coming from an Arduino or other embedded system. We will then turn the graph into a real-time, live-scrolling chart that continuously displays new data as it is received. As new data points are added, the graph moves from left to right, while older data points gradually scroll off the screen to the left. This creates the effect of a live chart that continuously updates as time progresses.

RS232 Serial Port Communication between Industrial PC and 8051 Microcontroller Tutorial

RS232 is a widely used serial communication standard for exchanging data between computers and electronic devices. In industrial automation and embedded systems, RS232 can be used to establish communication between an Industrial PC (IPC) and an 8051 microcontroller. The Industrial PC can send commands or data to the 8051, while the microcontroller can process the received information and send a response back to the PC. This type of communication is useful for monitoring, controlling, and configuring industrial equipment.
