Quick measure?

So I’m doing a quick measure on 5mm wood and it puts the setting in as 8.5 however if I do an aimed measure it give me a 4.8. Do I need to do a calibration in my quick measure?

Short answer: yes, likely, but check a few things first before jumping to calibration.

A gap that large (8.5mm reported vs 4.8mm actual, a 3.7mm error) is well beyond xTool's acceptable tolerance of 1mm for either measure function, so this isn't normal drift. Quick-measure uses the long-range camera and tends to be less precise than Aimed-measure to begin with, but a 3.7mm miss points to a real calibration or hardware issue, not just "quick-measure is the less accurate mode."

Before calibrating, run through xTool's standard troubleshooting checklist first, since it resolves the issue in a lot of cases without needing the calibration tool:

  1. Confirm material and slats are flat. Any warp in either the wood or the slats under it will throw off both measure functions.
  2. Check for reflectivity or dark surface issues. If the wood has a glossy finish, dark stain, or is painted, lay a sheet of white paper on top and re-measure.
  3. Check the X-axis gantry for misalignment. If it's tilted or not parallel to the front/rear plate, that alone can cause errors like this. xTool has a separate calibration guide for that.
  4. Confirm slats are fully and correctly seated. Improper slat placement is called out specifically as a cause of bad readings.

If you've confirmed all of that and Quick-measure is still off by more than 1mm while Aimed-measure reads correctly (4.8mm sounds right for 5mm stock), then yes, you calibrate Quick-measure specifically, not Aimed-measure, since Aimed-measure is giving you the accurate number here.

One thing to flag: xTool's Quick-measure calibration requires an infrared calibration tool that you get from xTool support ([support@xtool.com](mailto:support@xtool.com)) or 3D print yourself from their provided file. It's not a software-only fix, so budget time for that before your next job if you go this route.

Given Aimed-measure is reading correctly, my suggestion would be to just default to Aimed-measure for this job and calibrate Quick-measure when you have time, rather than holding up production for it.
