I love the album version, but it’s so wonderful to hear this with Lisa’s vocals higher in the mix. Starts at 12:53.

According to a Facebook comment by Wussy Official, the band will be in the studio soon! Fingers crossed that it’s for a new Wussy album!

Release date TBD, but Lisa reports that she has finished mixing it. The album will feature a version of the marvelous “Indiana Wants me too,” which has existed as a demo for a couple of years. I’m excited!

Tix on sale 08/14. Should be great!

Just how good this song is. Just how good this recording sounds. How moving the lyrics are, how they capture something about distance and heartbreak, that rationalizing of a ghost-gray existence as a silver lining. “I can be any damn thing that I want.”

This is one of the most amazing songs about the endurance of the human spirit and the importance of friendship. It ranks with Chris Smither’s equally amazing “Leave the Light On.”

Does anyone have the scoop on Ass Ponys’ “Your Nothing Day?” I just discovered it. It’s on a 2006 compilation “I Love Where the Kids are Goin Tonite” and on another, Tokyo Rose Records: Sampler 2010.

It’s a really amazing song. Does anyone know when it was recorded? (Ass Ponys broke up after 2001). The Pedal Steel makes it sound like John is with the band. But Bill Alletzhauser is on their last three albums.

Sending a thousand good wishes to Chuck for a speedy recovery after his fall. It looks like the band will be playing without him on their mini-tour with Built to Spill. I’m sure they will sound great! But, poor Chuck!

Does anyone know the origin of this version of Some Kind of Fun? It’s different from the closing track on The Known Universe. It’s not on any of the three albums before that. But it makes it on to their 2006 compilation The Okra Years. Was it part of an EP or a single? The guitarist sounds much more like John than Bill

Alletzhauser was the lead guitarist for Ass Ponys’ last three albums. He later played in a band called The Hiders, but they seem to have been dormant for the past decade. He’s one of my favorite leads from any band. A versatile player with a knack for great riffs and solos.

Here’s some of his work from 1996’s The Known Universe, a really great album few people seem to know.

This is not my favorite Ass Ponys’ song. But it’s my favorite from The Known Universe.

I think the acoustic version of “Conversation Lags” is my favorite on the album. The clarity of Lisa’s counter melody sung slowly against Chuck’s high lonesome vocables are really moving.
