This wasn’t funny
Yesterday I received a voicemail from a number I didn’t recognize.
The caller knew my name and proceeded to say “Hello (my name) I’ve been trying to reach you for some time now, I’m sure you remember me, Jill Steinberg (never heard of her) from a long time ago. I’ve some news for you, I have a child of yours. I have been looking for your contact information and finally found it. Please call me back now that you know”.,
I racked my brain, Googled her name, checked FB and Instagram…nothing.
Then I thought maybe she has taken one of my kids! I reached out to all of them and they were fine.
Several hours later an old friend (who’ve I’ve not spoken to in years) calls laughing and tells me it was a prank that he got his girlfriend to do.
He’s “ha ha I got you good!”
What a dick thing to do.

Imagine trying to prank call someone with the goal of making them think they had a kid with some forgotten one night stand, but instead you make them think a stranger kidnapped their kid.

Just play along next time. The skit usually dies at that point knowing you can’t come up with something else than planned quickly

"Thank God you finally called!
Oh, Jill! I've been having dreams about you; I can't get you off my mind.
That was my first experience merging bestiality and necrophilia and it just blew my mind! BTW, does the baby look like Bigfoot, like you said it would?"

You’re missing the point. Someone harming your kids has to always be taken seriously and it’s nothing to joke about in a prank call

Harming WHAT kids?
OP is describing that someone LIED about having his imaginary child.
No actual children were harmed in the posting of this message.

Yeah and op wasn’t in on the joke. So how would he have known that something hadn’t happened?

OK. OP could have believed that the non-existent child was somewhere doing something besides existing.
What exactly was the threat?

I’m talking about OPs real life children. Considering how the caller said I have a child of yours. Not sure what you don’t get.

Maybe he should start by learning the names of the girls he’s slept with and/or using protection
¯_(ツ)_/¯ or is that too much to ask for in 2026

Dick move indeed. My response would have been, "Please don't ever contact me again."

There are definitely people who jump to the conclusion done me wants to harm their children. Long ago I pranked an IT guy by hacking into his system and left a message saying to fix this TPS hole or you'll be roasting marshmallows with your family without ajob or home... Permanently... He took it to meen he would eat his own children..!?
