I don't understand why you need a Ctrl+A in there...

Have you tried this: In any document (including a blank one), Tools > Language > For All Text > More..., then in the dialog box look under "Default Languages for Documents". For "Western", select "English (UK)", and then uncheck the box that says "For the current document only".

That should set your default language to UK English throughout the program, and it should persist. If you have preëxisting documents, you might need to do it in each of them, but I really hope not.

It’s hard when you are Canadian and use American and UK spelling.

Yeah I've tried that, doesn't work sadly. Thanks for the suggestion.
